The ATP entourage has now moved to Mexico, and none is more happy than the Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas. Tsitsipas shares an old connection with Mexico. As a 15 year old Tsitsipas had come to play junior tennis in Mexico and participated in back to back tournaments.
The experience helped him win the prestigious ITF junior trophy the Orange Bowl in Florida. Tsitsipas believes that his actual journey in tennis began from that moment. “That was my first elevation in tennis. Mexico is pretty much the place where it all started for me, chasing the dream,” Tsitsipas said.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is the top seed at this year’s Acapulco Open. Although he has played well this year, he still hasn’t won a trophy yet. Tsitsipas would dearly love to celebrate his World no.5 ranking with a title win.
Acapulco is a great place to play Tennis, says Stefanos Tsitsipas
Before coming to Acapulco, Mexico, Tsitsipas had spent more than two weeks participating in the Rotterdam Open and the Marseille Open. That involved among other things strict covid restrictions, which meant basically being in your room if you were not playing or practicing. Tsitsipas is happy that in Mexico he can move around a bit. Tsitsipas said, “After being locked up in a hotel for 16 consecutive days in Rotterdam and Marseille, I enjoy the comforts of this tournament and the city much more.”
Tsitsipas also talked about how nice and friendly Acapulco actually was, He talked about the positive vibes of the place and how its a great place to bring your family and friends. He also said that Acapulco was a great place to play tennis in as well. “Acapulco is a very quiet and friendly place to enjoy and bring your family and friends. It’s a great place to play tennis“, Tsitsipas concluded.
