Miami Open 2021: Day 7- Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Rublev, Agut all make it to the Quarter-Finals, while Schwartzman and Raonic taste defeat
Medvedev Tsitsipas Rublev Schwartzman
Day-7 of the Miami Open 2021 saw top seeds overcome the Round-Four hurdle and book their places in the Quarters of the Miami Open 2021. Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev won convincingly, while Stefanos Tsitsipas had to put in some effort. Agut had to go to three sets to get a favorable result. Unfortunately it was the end of the road at the Miami Open 2021 for Diego Schwartzman and Milos Raonic.
The Russian sharpshooter, Medvedev keeps shooting down his opponents
Medvedev defeated his fourth round opponent American, Frances Tiafoe, in straight sets 6-4 6-3. The hot and humid conditions were not ideal for high quality tennis and took a toll on both players.
Medvedev was especially good with his serve in the second set. With this win Medvedev moves in the Quarters where his next opponent Roberto Bautista Agut awaits.
Tsitsipas overcomes the Italian Challenge
Second seed Tsitsipas overcame a spirited Lorenzo in two sets, 6-2, 7-6. Tsitsipas won the first set with relative ease, but in the second Lorenzo fought back. He took the set to a tie breaker. The tie breaker was won by Tsitsipas.
Tsitsipas had a win % of close to 90 on his first serve which in the end made a huge difference. His next round opponent is Hubert Hurkacz.
Andrey Rublev overcomes the Croatian star
Rublev, seeded fourth in this year’s event, overcame Marin Cilic in straight sets 6-4 6-4. The veteran Croatian Cilic couldn’t do much against the young and confident Russian and slumped to a straight set defeat. The only time Rublev was in a sport of bother was in the second set when he was 0-30, 1-2 down.
But Rublev made the difference with his superb ball returning skills, and stormed back to take the set 6-4. Rublev also won both his break points. His next round opponent is Sebastian Korda.
Agut defeats the American
Roberto Bautista Agut was a point away from elimination as he held his nerve to win an epic three setter against John Isner, 6-3 4-6 7-6 (9-7). Isner who had won the title in 2018 and was a finalist in 2019 was playing well in the tournament until he faced the Spanish player Agut in the fourth round. A very satisfying victory for Agut who will now take on the top seed Daniil Medvedev.
