Following the conclusion of the 2025 Indian Wells Masters, the focus of the tennis world has shifted toward the second leg of the Sunshine Doubles- the Miami Open. This year’s Miami Open will mark the 40th edition of both Men’s and Women’s events.
It’s the second ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season following Indian Wells. In Women’s tennis, the tournament is the fourth WTA 1000 event of the season after Qatar Open, Dubai Open, and Indian Wells.
Men’s World No.1 Jannik Sinner is the defending champion, but because he is facing his three-month doping ban, he won’t be playing. He had defeated Grigor Dimitrov in the final to claim the title last year.
In the Women’s event, Danielle Collins will enter the tournament as the defending champion. She claimed the biggest title of her career by beating 2023 Miami Open finalist Elena Rybakina.
Women’s World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka will be bidding to win her first singles title in the tournament. She had claimed the doubles trophy with Elise Mertens to complete the Sunshine Doubles in 2019.
Sabalenka has so far reached three finals this season, winning one at the Brisbane International. She was defeated in the Indian Wells final by teen sensation Mirra Andreeva, who will be eyeing three back-to-back WTA 1000 trophies following her victory in the Dubai Open and Indian Wells.
Along with the Russian, Britain’s Jack Draper too will enter the tournament on his quest for Sunshine Doubles after he lifted his career’s biggest title by beating Holger Rune in the Indian Wells final. Daniil Medvedev, the winner in 2023, will be searching for his first title since the 2023 Italian Open.
Miami Open 2025 schedule
The qualifying rounds of the Miami Open are currently underway on the hard courts of the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. They will be wrapped on March 17 and the main draw is scheduled to start on March 18. The matches of both Men’s and Women’s events will be concluded on March 30.
