Jiri Lehecka kicked off the year with a poor run at the Brisbane International and a shocking first-round exit at the Australian Open. Things got better for the Czech Republic star as he reached the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships. At Indian Wells, he slumped to Sebastian Korda in his opening match.

Lehecka opened his campaign at the Miami Open by beating Moise Kouame in straight sets before crushing Ethan Quinn. He dropped his first set in the fourth round against home favorite Taylor Fritz, winning 6-4, 6(4)-7, 6-2. He stepped up to the occasion in the quarter-finals, beating Martin Landaluce 7-6(1), 7-5.

On the other hand, Arthur Fils’ last match before the Montpellier Open was at the Canadian Open in July last year. The 21-year-old returned from but needed a bit of time to find his rhythm on the court. At the Qatar Open, he reached the final of the ATP 500 tournament before losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the final in straight sets.

At Indian Wells, he reached the quarter-finals and then lost to Alexander Zverev. At the Miami Open, he crushed American teenager Darren Blanch and Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second and third rounds. In the fourth round, he defeated Valentin Vacherot 6-4, 6(4)-7, 6-4 before prevailing over Tommy Paul 6(3)-7, 7-6(4), 7-6(6) after two hours and 47 minutes on Stadium Court.

Jiri Lehecka and Arthur Fils are chasing history at the Miami Open as they seek to reach their first Miami Open final. Lehecka, who has dropped just one set at the Miami Open, last defeated Fils at the Canadian Open in the third round. However, Fils holds a slim 2-1 lead in their head-to-head record on tour.

Fils is in a better form compared to Lehecka. The Frenchman had to battle hard against Tommy Paul in the quarter-finals as he was never broken by the American star.
