Kay Adams has become the favorite journalist of athletes across the NBA and the NFL to have interviews with. Her energy, paired with enthusiasm, and ability to keep the interview as friendly and cordial as a conversation make her unique. For rookie Ashton Jeanty, his first sit-down with Adams will be an unforgettable memory for both.
There has been one big change that the Las Vegas Raiders, Jeanty’s NFL team, has inculcated in the running back. Long known for his unorthodox stance in the backfield before a play gets rolling, Ashton Jeanty’s stance earned the moniker of ‘Michael Myers.’ The running back was discussing details of how the offensive coordinator Chip Kelly convinced him to make that change, while the most unexpected event happened.
The host of Up & Adams Show unexpectedly hit her front tooth with the mic. While that may seem to be nothing more than a small hit, the force with which her tooth hit the mic wound up breaking a piece of it. It was a hilarious incident, one that the running back did not notice immediately until she probably pointed it out later after the interview. Adams resorted to X and posted a tweet explaining her woe.
“I hit my tooth with the mic 2 seconds in. Dentist appointment Wednesday.”
An emergency dentist appointment is an ordeal that only a select few go through, and Kay Adams is now one of them. Subsequently, Ashton Jeanty proceeded to give a detailed explanation for the reason Chip Kelly wants him to try a new stance rather than the proven version that earned him 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns last year.
Ashton Jeanty changed his stance due to a basketball reference
On the first day of rookie minicamp, Kelly approached Jeanty and asked the running back to guard him as a defender would in basketball. This one reference changed Jeanty’s perspective.

“Man, Chip Kelly comes up to me first day of rookie minicamp. He’s like, ‘Do you play basketball or you ever play basketball? I’m like, ‘Yeah, I play basketball, I can dunk, all that.’ He’s like, ‘OK, show me how you would guard me…’That’s exactly why you gotta be down in your running back stance.”
The running back understood the reason and has since begun working on changing his stance. However, he does intend to switch things up and try his orthodox style in the league a few times, but only after he earns his stripes by making plays in the NFL. His stance represents him being patient behind all of his blockers. However, things are different in the NFL. That pose of comfort and relaxation could wind up being a problem due to the increased pace at which NFL defenses function.

Chip Kelly knows what he is doing, and this change will prove to be an odd experience for the rookie, but by the time the regular season rolls around, Ashton Jeanty will be comfortable in his new position. All eyes will be on the running back, who is part of a new-look Las Vegas Raiders organization led by Pete Carroll and quarterback Geno Smith. Jeanty will immediately be a focal point of this offense.
His last season with Boise State was nothing short of impressive. Despite losing in the Heisman race to Travis Hunter, Jeanty finished with 1,843 yards rushing, 2,601 total stats, and 41 touchdowns on a total of 374 carries. He averaged 7.0 yards per carry. Now, the question is how well his skill set in CFB carries over to the NFL.
