Micah Parsons won his second game with the Green Bay Packers by defeating the Washington Commanders on Thursday. After the game, Parsons spoke about the importance of a good defense.

Offense played its part with three total touchdowns. Jordan Love set up Romeo Doubs and Tucker Kraft through the air and running back Josh Jacobs on the ground.

However, the defense was the star of the show. The Packers D limited the Commanders to just 51 yards on the ground (the Commanders had 220 yards against the Giants on opening day) and sacked quarterback Jayden Daniels twice.

Micah Parsons landed two assisted quarterback hits and 0.5 sacks. The 25-year-old highlighted the role of a good defense for an NFL team. He said, after the game:

As you all seen against Baltimore and Buffalo, you could have a quarterback damn near perfect game but still lose because guess what, the defense gave up what? 40 points. Defense wins championships.

Last week, the Ravens’ defense surrendered a 15-point lead against the Bills in the final five minutes. Lamar Jackson’s 279 overall yards and three touchdowns were nullified by Josh Allen, who contributed four touchdowns to seal a one-point victory.

Parsons experienced a similar heartbreak in week 14 last year. The Dallas Cowboys-Cincinnati Bengals tie was all square at 20-20 with a handful of minutes left until the final whistle. A muffed punt and a special team’s howler led to Bengals Ja’Marr Chase’s touchdown, breaking the Cowboys’ hearts. Parsons added:

I’m hurt. I wouldn’t wish this on anybody. You can’t put that into words. … It seems like we’re paying a due that’s not fair. I don’t know if it’s bad luck or karma. This one hurt me more than any loss this year, probably even worse than the playoff.

Micah Parsons reacts to being compared to Reggie White

Parsons’ first move post-trade was to select a jersey number for himself. The Packers gave him several choices. He narrowed it down to two numbers: zero and one.

As rookie WR Matthew Golden had acquired number zero, Parsons settled for one behind his jersey. That number holds great significance in the Packers’ lore. It was worn by the founder of the Packers, Curly Lambeau, during the club’s initial years. No player since then has had the honor of donning that number. However, the Packers made an exception because Parsons is a generational talent and athlete.

Parsons drew comparisons with retired NFL great Reggie White because he is the only other pass rusher to record 12+ sacks each of his first four years. White won a Super Bowl in Green Bay, and fans are expecting the same from Parsons. He told the Amazon Prime crew:

I think we can do great things… As you all know, it just goes week by week to consistently put that effort and energy every week and great things can happen; we can get back to that Bowl.

The Packers have all the tools to qualify for the Bowl in San Francisco. However, it will not be an easy journey. Sharp Football Analysis revealed that the Packers have the 10th hardest schedule in 2025, one place above Parsons’ former team, which they meet in week four.
