Matt LaFleur greenlit Micah Parsons to start against the Washington Commanders despite playing just a few days ago. The star pass rusher ignored the mild annoyance in his back and put up a solid performance against last year’s NFC Title finalists.

The Commanders’ head coach, Dan Quinn, who coached Parsons at Dallas, had plans ready to counter his former disciple, but he still disrupted the offense at regular intervals. Quinn assigned Laremy Tunsil to tail Parsons, but the veteran barely kept the All-Pro linebacker quiet.

Parsons teamed up with fellow newcomer Nate Hobbs to put pressure on Commanders’ quarterback Jayden Daniels. Midway through the first half, Parsons and Hobbs quickly forced a three-and-out. Defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt joined in to sack Daniels for a 1-yard loss on second-and-6.

A few minutes later, the Packers trio outmuscled Washington’s offensive line to force a three-and-out. Lukas Van Ness tackled Commanders running back Austin Ekeler for a 1-yard loss, while Parsons drew a holding penalty on Nick Allegretti.

The 26-year-old was successful in drawing another holding call in the third quarter. He scrambled through the O-line to face right tackle Josh Conerly Jr. and drew a holding penalty. Parsons motored through Conerly to land a hit on Daniels with the help of linebacker Edgerrin Cooper. The Commanders lost 10 yards.

Running back Josh Jacobs ran two yards to score a touchdown before quarterback Jordan Love hit tight end Tucker Kraft for an 8-yard score. Kicker Brandon McManus’s 56-yard field goal increased the Packers’ lead to 17 points.

Daniels’ last-ditch effort at a comeback fell short. Despite connecting with Deebo Samuel for a score, the Commanders lost the game by nine points. It ended 18-27 for the Packers.

Micah Parsons finished with assisted tackles and 0.5 sacks, as per ESPN analytics. It took his tally to 1.5 in two games (he sacked Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff in week one). PFF gave Parsons a 73.9 pass rush grade and an overall grade of 66.0, even though he played a total of 30 snaps.

Skip Bayless makes a U-turn and praises Micah Parsons

Parsons’ contract standoff with the Dallas Cowboys was among the key talking points during the recently concluded offseason. A fallout with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones resulted in a historic trade to the Packers.

While a major part of the fanbase blamed Jones for not playing a fair game with Parsons, there were a few who supported the veteran GM. Among them was lifetime Cowboy fanatic Skip Bayless.

Bayless cited Parsons’s lack of professionalism, which had slowly become a hindrance for the Cowboys. The former ESPN and FOX Sports contributor further questioned the star pass rusher’s skills as an elite athlete, despite racking up at least 12 sacks in each of the last four seasons. Bayless tweeted:

MICAH IS A PLAYER WITH WHAT I CALL ‘LOSER INTANGIBLES’—A PLAYER WHO IS NOT THE KIND OF COLD-BLOODED FOOTBALL KILLER YOU NEED TO INSPIRE A LOCKER ROOM AND WIN A SUPER BOWL.

Remarkably, Bayless’ tone has been different since Parsons moved to Green Bay. During the Commanders fixture, Bayless tweeted:

Micah Parsons looks much quicker than he looked at any time the last three years in Dallas. He has found his happy place, way up there in Green Bay. His new team is now 2-0 and looking like the NFL’s best team by far.

The Packers traded two first-round draft picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark to the Cowboys at the time of the trade. They also agreed to a four-year, $188 million contract, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback ever.
