Less than five months ago, Micah Parsons was teammates with Trevon Diggs, with the latter supporting his close friend as his contract tussle with the Dallas Cowboys continued.

Then, after the star pass rusher was traded away to the Green Bay Packers, the cornerback was one of the few who was not only disappointed but chose to show his displeasure to the team.

It affected the way he reported to work, and even after his $500K loss in pay, Diggs was holding his ground on his opinion about the direction the Cowboys were taking.

After clashes with defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus‘ schemes, his supposed disapproval of the way Jerry Jones and Brian Schottenheimer were allowing the defense to move away from what made it successful in the past, the Alabama alum was not happy.

Still, the franchise knew they had to make it work as they had an All-Pro corner at their disposal. When his performances did not live up to his reputation, and some supposed attitude issues started mounting, the Dallas Cowboys released Trevon Diggs.

We’re back ….

This was Micah Parsons’ way of celebrating the news that his Green Bay Packers had claimed his former Cowboys teammate off the waiver wire, which means they can play together again.

The duo might be motivated by the fact that together they could show their former team that they had passed on two star players who could have altered the Cowboys’ season.

Trevon Diggs did not join Packers just because of Micah Parsons’ influence

When Trevon Diggs found himself without a job, many speculated that he would most likely sign with the Green Bay Packers, with Micah Parsons pulling the strings, and with them sharing an agent.

One important connection: At Alabama, Trevon Diggs’ secondary coach, helping him make the transition to CB, was Derrick Ansley. Ansley is now the Packers defensive pass game coordinator.

This revelation from the NFL’s lead Insider indicates that the Maryland native did not just move to Wisconsin due to his close friendship with Micah Parsons.

Rather, the very presence of his former Alabama secondary coach, who is the Packers’ defensive pass game coordinator, could help him get back to his former Pro Bowl self.

Derrick Ansley successfully turned Diggs from a wide receiver, safety, and special teams contributor into a top cornerback worthy of earning millions of dollars. The 27-year-old will be confident he can go back to being one of the best in the league.

Even though they have just one more regular-season game to play, and then at least one postseason appearance, it is possible that Trevon Diggs does enough to earn a longer stay with the Packers.

Attitude issues did not force Brian Schottenheimer to release Trevon Diggs

As Trevon Diggs settles down in his new workplace in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Brian Schottenheimer called in to speak with the hosts of 105.3 The FAN. When they asked him if his former cornerback’s insistence on staying back in DC led to his release, the head coach replied:

It was one of many factors… I’m not the Grinch that stole Christmas… We have a protocol that we go through, and the process was not followed… It was not the only reason that this decision was made.

The 52-year-old reiterated that, unless there was a family emergency, the franchise’s protocol is that the very team that goes on the road for a game should come back as a team.

Other players had also asked him if they could stay back, but Schottenheimer declined their request. The 1st-year head coach insisted that Diggs’ performance and other factors combined led them to release him.
