Micah Parsons finally disclosed the truth behind his broken contract talks with the Dallas Cowboys. Parsons wanted to stay with his childhood team, but the circumstances reached a point of no return.
The 26-year-old was subsequently traded. Parsons joined the Green Bay Packers, and despite signing a mammoth $47 million AAV deal, the star linebacker denied that money was his motivation for moving.
People feel like, you know, I didn’t try to do everything to stay in Dallas.
Micah Parsons said via Bleacher Report
In reality, the Cowboys refused to show interest in extending his contract. Parsons was told to either play the fifth year of his rookie deal or find another team to play for.
I was given no [other] choice. It was, to me at first, a little disrespectful. You know, I take it as it’s just part of business. I didn’t take it in any type of way. They [Cowboys] wanted to do what’s best for their team.

Even though the negotiations broke down, and Jerry Jones attempted to lowball his agent, Parsons harbors no ill will towards his former team or the veteran GM. In fact, he has massive respect for Jones for allowing him to wear the star on his helmet for four years.
He let me live out my dream (playing for the Cowboys). People don’t realize that those four years in Dallas were like some of the best years of my life. I gave it everything, and I really wanted to end my career there. It just so happened, you know, the staff and higher-ups wanted something different, and I am not mad at them.
Parsons quipped
As Parsons mentioned, he made a last-ditch effort to negotiate a deal before his final moments in Dallas. However, Jones refused to entertain his wishes and focused on prepping for a trade.
Jerry Jones responded to the message, saying the Cowboys were prepping a trade, and if Parsons wanted to play in Dallas in 2025, he would have to do so on his fifth-year option. Parsons would become a free agent in 2026, but the team could also use the franchise tag to prevent his departure at that point.
an ESPN report revealed
As Parsons is no longer a Cowboy, he wasn’t present for their opening day loss against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Micah Parsons wants to play in the Packers’ week one fixture
During the final moments of his Cowboys career, Parsons faced severe criticism for resting on a bench. No one knew the reason behind his behavior until his teammates hinted that he was dealing with a back issue.

The rumors were confirmed after Parsons completed his medical in Green Bay. It caused a panic among the Packers faithful. Reports suggested that he might miss the season opener against the Detroit Lions.
Parsons, on the other hand, has every intention of starting the game and showing off his number one jersey.
It’s a process of getting ready for football, being out for six months… But I just got plenty of faith in this great training staff and the coaches. They’re slowly getting me into plays and getting me things that I need if they decide to give me the green light. It’s completely up to the coaches, though.

If the doctors give Parsons the green signal to start, then he will slot right into the spot previously occupied by Kenny Clark, who is now with the Cowboys.
Parsons could do wonders on this roster. He’s only the second pass rusher in NFL history to record 12+ sacks in each of his first four campaigns in the league. He was also the 38th-best player on PFF’s list and the 36th-best in the NFL’s top 100 player list.
The Packers and Lions rivalry is among the oldest in football, dating back to the early 1920s. The Packers lead the series with a 106-78-7 record.
