Shedeur Sanders‘ ball skills were on display at Colorado Pro Day, but a few noticed a habit that usually gets overlooked most of the time. NFL insider and Bleacher Report contributor John Frascella pointed out Sanders’ patting the ball before launching a pass to his receivers.

Now this got people thinking. Is patting the ball an issue? The answer lies in the release time. More patting means quarterbacks taking more time to release the ball.

It didn’t take long for social media users to chime in with their takes. Some were in favor of Sanders, while others viewed it as another flaw in the 23-year-old’s arsenal that might put a dent in his already falling draft stock.

Even NFL players chimed in with their opinion. The New York Giants—the NFC East team projected to draft the Colorado QB—wide receiver Darius Slayton defended Sanders. Slayton argued Sanders can sling a dime irrespective of how much he pats the ball.

I promise he can pat the ball and be just fine. if DB’s was so good at breaking on ball pats they’d all have 8+ picks a year.

The former fifth-rounder implied Sanders’ passes are accurate enough that he can still find his receivers by missing the defensive backs.

Frascella respected Slayton’s assessment but didn’t agree with it completely. He received backing from the Giants’ arch-nemesis in the NFC, Dallas Cowboys Micah Parsons.

The star pass rusher claimed holding on to the ball only increases the chances of a sack.

You realize at Pat on the ball can be difference between a sack or a throw away/completion?

Slayton fired back, saying 7x Super Bowl winner Tom Brady used to pat the ball a lot before releasing it.

Tom Brady literally the king of getting the ball out fast patted the ball when he threw. So actually no patting the ball is not the difference.

Every fan and student of football likes comparing a new kid on the block to possibly the greatest-ever football player. However, Parsons wasn’t amused by the comparison.

Comparing the greatest quarterback [Tom Brady] ever to Sanders is why I’ll never entertain a football conversation with you!! Like what are we doing here??

Whether Sanders can sling the ball in the NFL has always been a big question for most. However, they forget his four-year college performances established him as a top 5 draft pick. Especially in his two seasons with Colorado, Sanders threw for 7,364 yards and 64 touchdowns.

Yet there’s also a downside to his gameplay. Stat and draft expert Dan Kelly feels that Shedeur Sanders needs to improve his release time; otherwise, he might find himself in trouble in the NFL.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler created quite the commotion when fans found out Sanders was not a top 5 or even a top 10 prospect on his mock draft. Brugler projected Sanders falling down as low as 21 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. (H/T: On3.com)

The outside chatter doesn’t faze Shedeur. He is confident in his abilities.

Cameras and eyes anywhere I go… It doesn’t matter where I go. I know my teams, and I know the influence I have, you know, on society and on culture. [So] wherever I go, you know, it’s definitely gonna be an improvement than what it was before I got there.

The latest reports suggest the Tennessee Titans may no longer be interested in Sanders. They are fixated on Miami’s Cam Ward.
