Micah Parsons officially became part of the Green Bay Packers on Friday, Aug. 29, following his trade from the Dallas Cowboys. He is set to wear the #1 jersey and aims to embrace one of the long-standing traditions of Lambeau Field.

The day after, his agent, David Mulugheta, helped Parsons bag more money than Patrick Mahomes, and the star edge rusher jetted his way to Green Bay for his first press conference as a Packer. Parsons walked onto the podium wearing a yellowish-green sweater (the colors of the NFC North franchise) and a bright yellow beanie on his head.

Parsons thanked the Packers organization for giving him the ‘honor’ of wearing their colors. However, to complete the full Lambeau experience, Parsons wants to reenact the iconic ‘Lambeau Leap.’

If I ever get a turnover, we are going to the crib… I gotta get a Lambeau leap man.

Micah Parsons replied to a reporter at the press conference

Parsons has only ever scored one touchdown in his professional career. It has to be a one-in-a-million chance for him to snag a loose ball for a house call. Then again, as a high school running back, he should not face too many problems scoring a TD or a pick-6.

‘Lambeau Leap’ is the brainchild of former Packers safety LeRoy Butler. While playing against the Los Angeles Raiders (now Las Vegas Raiders), Butler scored a touchdown after a recovery. He had the cool idea of jumping onto the guardrail to sit beside the fans to celebrate the score. This celebration later came to be known as the ‘Lambeau Leap.’

Micah Parsons is set to wear the number one for the Packers

Selecting a jersey number is not an easy task. Some players take days, even weeks, to find that one particular number that defines their playing style and aura.

History also plays a big part in the selection. Parsons kept both aspects in his mind to pick out the best number to wear behind his Packers jersey.

According to CBS Sports, Micah Parsons is set to wear the ‘No. 1’ on his jersey, stepping away from his famed ‘No. 11,’ a number he had worn since his college days at Penn State. Currently, the eleven is occupied by wide receiver Jayden Reed.

Ironically, Reed had requested the number one jersey in 2023, which was denied by the organization as “it wasn’t available.”

The ‘No. 1’ holds great significance in the Packers’ history, the only player to have ever worn the number one was former player, founder, and coach Curly Lambeau (1926).

Lambeau initially wore number 10 during the club’s initial years before making the switch to one. The honor has been passed to Parsons to enrich its legacy.

Skip Bayless, on the other hand, took a jab at his former favorite by mentioning his poor playoff record. The Cowboys fanatic tweeted,

Micah will wear No. 1, the first Packer to do so since Curly Lambeau. That number reminds me only of how many sacks he has in 4 career playoff games—that 1 coming with 1:29 left of a blowout of 45-year-old Brady’s 8-9 Bucs.

Parsons has a great opportunity on his hands to shut down the naysayers in week four of the new season, as the Packers are scheduled to play in Arlington. A little over a year ago, the Packers handed the Cowboys a 48-32 defeat in the playoffs.
