The Dallas Cowboys host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night. Micah Parsons returns to the den of his previous employers, a month removed from his trade to the NFC North franchise.
Parsons left following a lengthy standoff about his contract extension. He was at odds with owner Jerry Jones on whether his agent should be part of the negotiations.
A few days before the week one fixture, the Cowboys traded Parsons to the Packers in exchange for first-round draft picks and Kenny Clark. The 26-year-old motored through three weeks of football despite battling back problems to record 2 sacks, 2 solo tackles, and a 90.1 (4th best among all the pass rushers in the league).
It took a stingy Browns team to stop Parsons from making plays in week three. The Packers suffered their first defeat, ending up with a 2-1 record.
Dallas, meanwhile, was on the receiving end of a drubbing from the Packers’ divisional rivals, the Chicago Bears, in the same week. Montez Sweat and Dominique Robinson sacked quarterback Dak Prescott twice, forcing two turnovers (three in total).
Parsons considers Prescott a friend and a mentor, but he will sack the veteran shot caller if he sees an opening. So how will they contain the All-Pro pass rusher? Brian Schottenheimer said via The Athletic’s Jon Machota:
I think I know Micah pretty well. They move him around a lot, which is great. I’m not going to give away our game plan for Micah, but we’ll pay a lot of attention to Micah… We’re gonna hit him. We’re gonna put multiple people on him.

Parsons is undeniably a big threat to the Cowboys. However, he is not the only one who could make life hell for Prescott. His teammates Quay Walker (16 tackles), Rashan Gary (8 tackles and 4.5 sacks), Evan Williams (7 tackles and 1 interception), and Javon Bullard (13 tackles) could easily disrupt the Cowboys’ offense in the blink of an eye. Schottenheimer added:
Micah is going to make plays, I’ll just put that out there. Does he get a sack? I hope not. He might, he’s pretty good… let’s not forget, Rashan Gary is a hell of a rusher too.

The Cowboys are set to skip the pleasantries for Micah Parsons
It’s common courtesy for teams to compile a tribute video for one of their former stars. Parsons recorded 12 sacks in each of his first four seasons, but those numbers weren’t enough to warrant a tribute in Jerryland.

The veteran owner made it clear that there won’t be any special welcome for the former 12th overall pick.
I don’t think that’s appropriate this way. Emmitt [Smith returning to Dallas] was a different story. But that’s not to diminish Micah. I think Micah’s got enough welcome out there. We just need to show we’ve got antidotes for that.
Parsons may not have reached the same stratosphere as the legendary rusher, but he still has admirers in Dallas. The Cowboys have 17 wins and 22 losses in 39 previous meetings against the Packers. The visitors are the overwhelming favorites to make it 22.
