The Dallas Cowboys’ general manager and owner, Jerry Jones, does not intend to trade star defensive end Micah Parsons by any means. After a week of contract chatter swirling around the linebacker, the business mogul tried to cool down the speculation.

Last week, there were reports of the Micah Parsons contract extension talks going backward. Adam Schefler reported that the negotiations were worse than they were in late March or early April. Two days later, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that the Parsons was considering drastic measures that included a trade.

Parsons had made his trade request public on August 1 with a lengthy write-up on his X profile.

Unfortunately I no longer want to be here. I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization our fans and my teammates.

The trade news had fans worried as Parsons has a stellar resume in his four years with the franchise. He has been selected for the Pro Bowl in all four seasons while being named in the All-Pro First Team twice. Jerry Jones’ brazen and his mentally checked out defiant comments didn’t make the concerns any less.

After Saturday’s practice, one which Parsons hasn’t joined yet, Jones addressed the media with regards to the trade news. Jones attempted to water down concerns by shrugging off Parsons’ trade request as a part of negotiations.

I think the world of Micah. And that [request] is just a part of negotiation.

Jerry Jones said after Saturday’s practice

He spent around 16 minutes discussing Parsons and the contract situation, where he sarcastically claimed that the linebacker has missed nine training camps due to a hurt back. Jones also chipped in the ‘experience’ card. The comments fell right into the defensive tactics employed by older folks to as a way to soften the blow or deflect criticism.

Jerry Jones compared the trade request and ongoing situation to troubles in a relationship

Jones, in his long speech, also took a moment to reflect on the last offseason, which was equally marred by a similar but less ill scenario. The business mogul has been receiving a lot of hatred and criticism online as well as from the sidelines of the training camp.

The fans have alleged that Jones is cheap and noted that he has been behaving like a plantation owner by not rewarding the players on his team with appropriate salaries. The reflection on the last offseason was a way for Jones to show that he isn’t cheap, nor does he act like a shrewd businessman.

It seems like that we forget that it’s been less than a year, and I paid the highest that’s been paid in the NFL to Dak, and I paid a big price for Lamb. Anybody that says I’m not interested in financially rewarding my players hasn’t been looking at the tea leave.

Jones claimed

Jones continued his rant and advised the fans not to worry, and most importantly, not to lose any sleep over this matter. In an attempt to trivialize and make the matter look less concerning, Jones compared the whole standoff to a relationship that’s going through trouble.

But as always in any relationships, there’s different moods at different times of your relationship. That’s what it is.

Jones told the media

Currently, the mood in Dallas isn’t a preferred stage in a relationship. But as any good friend would tell the other, the recurrence of these bad stages might be a red flag.
