Jerry Jones tested Micah Parsons’ patience by stalling the contract negotiations, and now the All-Pro pass rusher is fighting back. Parsons announced that he wants to be traded.

On Friday, August 1, Parsons posted a lengthy tweet to let his followers know the reason behind his drastic decision. Parsons wrote that he loved being part of the Cowboys, the team he and his father grew up supporting in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. However, he “no longer” wants to play for the Cowboys.

Parsons established himself as one of the best pass rushers in football. He won All-Pro honors and finished high in the defensive player of the year category on multiple occasions.

In his statement, the 26-year-old asked his agent, David Mulugheta, to speak with Jones about an extension, as his rookie contract was near its end. Jones promised an extension, and they waited for another year for round two.

When Parsons and Jones met earlier this year, he thought they would talk about ‘leadership’ until the owner/general manager began discussing the details of his contracts. It turned into a pseudo-negotiation session.

Parsons reminded Jones that he would let Mulugheta handle the details, but when he reached out, Jones said that they had already negotiated with his client.

Later, Jones confessed that he did not know who Parsons’ agent was. Even though Parsons wasn’t happy with the revelation, he kept quiet because he saw Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb signing big-money deals before him.

On day one of the Cowboys’ training camp in Oxnard, reporters once again asked Jones about Parsons’ contract.

The veteran thanked Parsons for attending the camp, but at the same time, he took a jab at him, claiming that the board was having second thoughts on committing to an extension due to Micah missing a few games in 2024.

This was the last nail in the coffin.

I no longer want to be held to close-door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans, and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me.

Micah Parsons said in his tweet

Parsons’ biggest disappointment in this entire ordeal is not that he hasn’t signed a new deal, but Jones’ apathy to include Mulugheta (his agent and, in Jones’ words, the ‘middle man’) in the negotiations.

Up to today, the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract. Not one demand has been made by my agent about money, years, or anything else. Still, I stayed quiet but again after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally.

A day before, Parsons shared a meme from the movie Bad Boys for Life, hinting that something massive was on its way.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini hinted earlier in the day that Parsons’ distress had reached a boiling point and he was ready for drastic action.

Russini’s announcement had already generated ample buzz on social media. Fans eagerly waited for Parsons’ next move.

In the meantime, Cowboys undrafted safety Juanyeh Thomas changed his X profile picture by uploading a Micah Parsons photo.

Moments later, Parsons dropped his statement that he had requested a trade from the Cowboys.

CeeDee Lamb tweeted in support of Parsons. Lamb wrote,

Never fails dawg. Just pay the man what you owe em. No need for the extra curricular.

Now the ball is on Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones’ court. There is still room for optimism because everyone knows Prescott and Lamb signed their contracts mere days before the first week of regular-season football.

Despite that, teams are bound to poke around the Cowboys to hold trade talks. Only time will tell whether Jones entertains those offers.
