UFC 300 delivered exciting finishes, and Dana White delivered exciting fight announcements at the press conference. With the announcement of Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler, White sent MMA fans into a frenzy. For McGregor’s comeback fight, the intention is to break records for the fighters and the promotion.

The highest-selling UFC PPV was UFC 229, headlined by Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov. UFC 229 generated $2.4 million in PPV buys in the US domestic market, and the only PPVs that came close to breaking the record were also McGregor-headlining PPVs. Chandler will have an eye on the record, as revealed in his interview on the MMA Hour.

This is no disrespect to, you know. I, we want to break that Khabib [Nurmagomedov] number, right? The 2.4 [million], and that was huge because of the animosity and the biggest, you know, the biggest Muslim athlete on the planet. I mean, it had all the makings of it doing that kind of number. But this one, Conor's comeback, one of the most violent guys in the sport. I mean, it's, uh, we got 73 days to build this thing.

Dana White announced the fight after he received a piece of paper with the information from his staff. Chandler stated that the relatively low-profile announcement is an ‘oxymoron foreshadowing’ of what will come. Ever since his rise to fame, all of the PPVs headlined by Conor McGregor have been big spectacles, and the UFC has put on massive promotions for them.

Chandler also revealed his plans after his fight with McGregor, which are at the welterweight, lightweight, and BMF titles. He also issued a callout to new BMF champion Max Holloway. Nonetheless, as of now, his focus remains on the matchup with “The Notorious” Conor McGregor.

Michael Chandler praises Conor McGregor’s rival

Conor McGregor has had notable rivalries with many luminaries in the UFC. He had the most heated rivalry with Khabib, and the one against Nate Diaz remains in a stalemate (1-1). However, he has fought Dustin Poirier more than any other fighter. Moreover, he trails 1-2 against Poirier, with the only win coming at featherweight.

Michael Chandler also has experience fighting Poirier. After all, his last fight was against Poirier, which he lost via submission. It was the first and only time Chandler lost a fight via submission. Therefore, it was unsurprising to see Chandler hail praise on Poirier in his appearance on the MMA Hour.

Dustin [Poirier] hits very hard; Dustin has the heart of a champion. Dustin is, I would say, the most skilled guy I have fought ever in my entire life. From a standpoint of huge heart, great cardio, his mind is with it when he's in the octagon. He'll play possum, just like he did with me. He will lose rounds, he will concede position, he'll do all of these different things to win the fight. He's a certified competitor.

Nevertheless, Chandler did not think Poirier would defeat Islam Makhachev at UFC 302. Moreover, Chandler went on to predict an easy victory for Makhachev against Poirier and Arman Tsarukyan. Nonetheless, he did admit that Porier has better boxing than Makhachev. It remains to be seen if any of Chandler’s predictions will come true.
