Michael Chandler vs. Paddy Pimblett could help the British talent rise to the top of the UFC lightweight rankings. The duo lock horns at UFC 314 PPV co-main event in Kaseya Center, Miami. Chandler revels in chaos and “See you at the top” isn’t just a motto for the Nashville, Tennessee fighter. He released a first statement about the booking.
Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes will duke it out at the UFC 314 event headliner, for the vacant 145-pound crown. Meanwhile, UFC CEO Dana White announced on his IG handle that Chandler would take on lightweight fighter from Liverpool. In a video shared on X early Thursday morning, Chandler gave his reaction to the fight, which was late notice by his standards.
In this sport, things move very fast, …’Hey, what do you think about fighting Paddy Pimblett in April?’ I said, ‘Well, Hunter — April is only eight weeks away. I like to put down about four weeks of training before I go into an eight-week camp. Let me think about it…Next day I flew to Vegas, sat down with him in his office, we talked through everything, …We’re fighting Paddy Pimblett, Miami, April 12th. Because an imperfect plan implemented now is better than a perfect plan implemented months from now.

Chandler (23-9 MMA, 2-4 UFC), a former Bellator champion, lost against Charles “Do Bronxs” Oliveira, dropping a lopsided decision loss. It was the first fight for Michael Chandler in two years, as he had put active contention on the back burner. In Pimblett, 30, Chandler gets what UFC/MMA purists and White would consider a younger version of Conor McGregor.
#UFC314 in Miami vs Pimblett! This sport moves fast and time waits for nobody…an imperfect plan executed now is better than a perfect plan executed in the future.

Yes, the one he sidelined himself for too long. The former Cage Warriors champion has won his first six UFC appearances since debuting in 2021. “Baddy” is a stiff challenge and comes into the bout with an impressive SOTY contender submission of King Green at UFC 304 PPV. Nevertheless, the American will relish the opportunity to derail one of the UFC’s surging stars while entertaining the masses.
Michael Chandler talks more about his fight vs. Paddy Pimblett
Scouser Paddy Pimblett entered the UFC rankings after UFC 304. “Baddy” had defeated big names before. But this was the right momentum in the right way that’d propel him beyond the top 15. Afterward, Pimblett (22-3 MMA, 6-0 UFC) revealed renewing his UFC contract and doused heavy challenges to his peers and the top crowd.

The UFC has accommodated and pushed for the brand power that is Pimblett. Yet, there was some doubt if he’d get the top names or even top ranks anymore and prove his skill ceiling. Fighting Michael Chandler at UFC 314 is a big one, especially now that there’s naysayers doubting both. Both have been hinting at it too. In prime Chandler fashion, “Iron” thus continued:
I like the matchup, love the matchup actually, …I respect Paddy. I think Paddy is a skilled fighter, I think he’s still got a bright future – but I think he’s going to run into a buzz saw named Michael Chandler on April 12th. As always, I will be the most entertaining guy that steps inside the octagon that night. I will have everybody on their feet. I will have everybody on the edge of their seat!
Michael Chandler further said
Chandler sits five spots above Pimblett in the official lightweight listings. He has also dropped two straight and lost four out of his last five outings. But, shock and awe has always been the go-to move for Michael Chandler.
The former brand face of the now defunct-Bellator MMA roster, Chandler won a title shot in his sophomore UFC outing due to his shock and awe factor. Then, he coached against “Notorious” at TUF Season 32 and was a big bill to make it to the top ranks if he won. In Pimblett, Chandler gets the chance to derail the hype and prove that he’s still the weird 155-pound juggernaut that goes top speed.
