Michael Cole forced to call all the matches for Wrestlemania 37 Night One due to on-air talent leaving WWE
Michael Cole and Samoa Joe during Wrestlemania 37
WWE delivered an action-filled first night of Wrestlemania 37. The fans attended a live WWE show after over a year and they definitely had a night to remember. But there was one person, who had a forgettable night at the Raymond James Stadium.
The social media reactions suggest that the first night of Wrestlemania 37 was disastrous for Michael Cole. The member of the Smackdown’s commentary team called every match on the show, and even botched a few comments. Usually, the commentators only work on the matches that are part of their brand, but this was the case this time.
Recent reports from Wrestling Observer Radio mentioned that Cole was not slated to work on the entire show. But due to Covid-19 protocols, Tom Phillips was pulled from the show and Cole had to fill in.
“Michael Cole did the whole show, which was not the plan, but Tom Phillips, who apparently may not be back…but Tom Phillips apparently, it was a COVID protocol issue for tonight, and then the story is that on Monday, Adnan Virk from ESPN starts as the new announcer on RAW. I don’t know that. That’s the story going around…So, Michael Cole had to do the whole show.”
Another report by Wrestling Inc. also mentioned that ESPN’s Adnan Virk will be replacing Tom Phillips from Monday.
Samoa Joe might join Michael Cole on the Smackdown commentary team
WWE is looking to freshen things up in their commentary department with new personnel and newer dynamics. Fans might’ve noticed that Samoa Joe has been removed from the Raw commentary team.
This could hint that Joe is ready to make his in-ring return. Or it might also mean that the former United States Champion would be going over to Smackdown to join Michael Cole on the announcer’s team.
Additionally, Corey Graves is also reportedly moving to the Raw commentary team. His addition will make it a three-person commentary team, along with Byron Saxton and Adnan Virk.
