Michael Irvin shared five eventful years with Deion Sanders at the Dallas Cowboys and even won a Super Bowl together. To this day, Irvin and Sanders share a close bond. Despite being a staunch supporter and an alumnus of Miami, the former wide receiver has shown up at Colorado games where Prime is the head coach.

Irvin wholeheartedly believes that Sanders is the GOAT (greatest of all time) cornerback and defensive back. To him, Prime Time is the gold standard. And it’s borderline blasphemous to call someone else the better player.

Sanders’ CV is loaded. In 14 NFL seasons, he played for five different teams: Atlanta, San Francisco, Dallas, Washington, and Baltimore. Sanders wrapped up his career with two Super Bowl titles, one each with San Francisco and Dallas, plus eight All-Pro honors, eight Pro Bowl nods, the 1994 Defensive Player of the Year award, and a 2011 induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

So, when Brandon Marshall picked Darrelle Revis over Deion as a more gifted DB, Irvin lost his cool. It doesn’t take much to get the former receiver excited or emotional, but this felt different. He couldn’t believe an accomplished former NFL player like Marshall would choose Revis over Sanders.

“So, what are you trying to say? [Darrelle] Revis was better than Deion?” A shocked Michael Irvin uttered the same question three times on a segment of Netflix’s The White House With Michael Irvin podcast.

Revis is a winner in his own right. He won a championship ring in New England, earned four All-Pro selections, seven Pro Bowl honors, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2023.

In his defense, Marshall implied that Revis was technically sound compared to Sanders, shutting down legendary receivers such as Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Chad Johnson, and a few others.

When we talk about technique, we have to put some respect on his [Revis’s] name.

Marshall urged

That being said, Marshall acknowledged that Sanders was a far superior athlete than his former Jets teammate.

Deion Sanders’ former colleague shares his honest opinion about the Colorado head coach

Several coaches contracted to Colorado lost their jobs after the 2025 college football season concluded. Among them was Michael Pollock.

Pollock served as a quality control assistant in Boulder before Prime promoted him to Colorado’s special teams coordinator last year. He had his moments, but a terrible stretch of results ultimately cost him his position.

When you go 3-9, and you’ve got a coordinator attached to your name, you’ve got a bullseye on your chest.

Pollock said while appearing on The Pregame Show’s “The Morning Live” (H/T: Sports Illustrated)

Sanders made Pollock a part of his staff when he managed Jackson State in the FCS. Pollock followed his boss to Boulder and spent three years in the UC system. He’s back on the job market once again, but doesn’t harbor any ill will toward Prime.

He’s [Deion Sanders’] my guy. He gave me an opportunity when no one else would, and I’ll never forget that. He’ll always be special to me, and I’m always going to support him and wish nothing but the best for him because that’s what he deserves.

Sanders turned Colorado into a college powerhouse a year after taking charge. The Buffaloes went 9-4 but conceded to clinch the BIG 12 title to BYU and later suffered a defeat in the Alamo Bowl. This was the final year for the quarterback, his son Shedeur Sanders, and Travis Hunter, who won the Heisman Trophy.

UC rewarded Sanders with a five-year, $54 million contract extension. However, the Buffs took a couple of steps back in 2025. They went 3-9 and won just one conference game all year.
