The NASCAR charter dram have gotten into another realm with 23XI Racing and Font Row Motorsports suing them for unfair practices over the new deal. The owners gave it’s 15 Cup teams 48-hour notice and a 100-page contract to sign just before the start off the playoffs. 13 of the teams broke under pressure and signed the deal.

Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing and Bob Jenkins’ FRM decide against it as they deemed it as an unfair deal. The following days saw no real improvement in the situation, and the teams were forced sue NASCAR and the France family, who them deem as monopolistic bullies. Now the co-owner of 23XI and NBA legend Jordan has released a statement on the motive behind the legal action.

Jordan loves the sport with the same passion as its fans, but is against the way it is being run by the current leaders. He is fighting NASCAR to make the market competitive drivers, sponsor and fans.

Everyone knows that I have always been a fierce competitor, and that will to win is what drives me and the entire 23XI team each and every week out on the track. I love the sport of racing and the passion of our fans, but the way NASCAR is run today is unfair to teams, drivers, sponsors, and fans. Today’s action shows I’m willing to fight for a competitive market where everyone wins.

Michael Jordan said via a statement.

Bob Jenkins also released a statement on the lawsuit

Veteran businessman Bob Jenkins has been fielding cars in NASCAR since 2005 and he hasn’t yet made any substantial profit on those investments. Though he is proud of the team’s success, he is now looking to make it as a significant inheritance for his children and in order for that to happen he has to make sure NASCAR has a fair system that rewards the stakeholders.

I have been part of this racing community for 20 years and couldn’t be more proud of the Front Row Motorsports team and our success. But the time has come for change. We need a more competitive and fair system where teams, drivers, and sponsors can be rewarded for our collective investment by building long-term enterprise value, just like every other successful professional sports league.

Bob Jenkins explained via a statement.

The sentiment shared by Jenkins is something that many owners in the NASCAR scene agrees with as they don’t see any long-term reward for their investment in the sport. This is also one thing that is stopping other potential investors from entering the sport. It will be interesting to see how the lawsuit will change Jenkins, Jordan and NASCAR.
