The NASCAR charter dram have gotten into another realm with 23XI Racing and Font Row Motorsports suing them for unfair practices over the new deal. The owners gave it’s 15 Cup teams 48-hour notice and a 100-page contract to sign just before the start off the playoffs. 13 of the teams broke under pressure and signed the deal.
Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing and Bob Jenkins’ FRM decide against it as they deemed it as an unfair deal. The following days saw no real improvement in the situation, and the teams were forced sue NASCAR and the France family, who them deem as monopolistic bullies. Now the co-owner of 23XI and NBA legend Jordan has released a statement on the motive behind the legal action.
He pointed out that being a fierce competitor throughout his life he wants his team to winning on the track and as well as off it. Jordan loves the sport with the same passion as its fans, but is against the way it is being run by the current leaders. He is fighting NASCAR to make the market competitive drivers, sponsor and fans.
Bob Jenkins also released a statement on the lawsuit
Veteran businessman Bob Jenkins has been fielding cars in NASCAR since 2005 and he hasn’t yet made any substantial profit on those investments. Though he is proud of the team’s success, he is now looking to make it as a significant inheritance for his children and in order for that to happen he has to make sure NASCAR has a fair system that rewards the stakeholders.
The sentiment shared by Jenkins is something that many owners in the NASCAR scene agrees with as they don’t see any long-term reward for their investment in the sport. This is also one thing that is stopping other potential investors from entering the sport. It will be interesting to see how the lawsuit will change Jenkins, Jordan and NASCAR.
