As part of their eight-game road trip, LeBron James and his Los Angeles Lakers were due to face a few Eastern Conference teams before returning home.
Their first three games were against fellow Western Conference teams, with the men in purple and gold ironing out a 2-1 record before taking on what could be a challenging run of games in the East. First, they would face the unpredictable Chicago Bulls, who might have used their inconsistency to catch opponents off guard. The Lakers knew this would be a problem if they fell behind.
The King and his teammates went to task and hustled after the home team, getting after steals and imposing their will. James, in particular, put on a show, powering through defenders to get to the rim, and sometimes throwing down loud dunks.
Even though there were some Lakers fans inside the United Center, the home fans were also excited to watch arguably one of the greatest of all time go through his motions at age 41.
BLASPHEMOUS: Bulls crowd is cheering LeBron buckets more loudly than any Bulls score. Yes, quite a few Laker fans there. But come on, Bulls fans, not in The House That HE Built.

This was the 74-year-old’s reaction when he heard those cheers through his television screen. Being an ardent fan of the great Michael Jordan, he was appalled to see Bulls fans give LeBron James, the other GOAT rival, standing ovations whenever he got off a layup or dunk.
LeBron James gave Bulls fans a show
At the end of the game, the Los Angeles Lakers walked off with a 129-118 win. The scoreboard displayed that Luka Doncic was the game’s best scorer with 46 points.

However, he was not the one who excited the 21,298 fans inside the United Center. Instead, it was LeBron James, who set the tone early with a steal and a thunderous dunk.
With eight and a half minutes to go, Bulls youngster Matas Buzelis tried to dribble towards his left. Seeing this, the league’s all-time leading scorer took a step back and used his left hand to tap the ball out of the 2024 11th overall pick’s hands.
As the ball bounced towards Luka Doncic, LeBron James was already way past the last of the Bulls defenders. After receiving the lobbed bounce pass from his Slovenian teammate, the Akron native caught the ball with his left hand and jumped off his right foot.

While in the air, James cocked his right hand as far back as he could and then slammed the ball, leading the Chicago Bulls fans to cheer loudly. It was a confirmation that, GOAT rivalry or not, they wanted to appreciate the Lakers’ superstar for what he has done in his career.
LeBron James was demanding the ball
Again, if one were to merely look at the box score, they would see that LeBron James finished the game with a +/- of -14. Usually, that statistic should not bother many, unless it is consistently the reason for losses.
When the father of three had just entered his 23rd season, many critics pointed to his horrendous +/- numbers to suggest that James was the reason the Lakers’ chemistry took a hit. Now, as they get along in a rhythm to post a winning record this month, James has been showing a willingness to take on a bigger share of the offensive load.
A clip surfaced from their game against the Bulls, where it shows the 4-time league MVP seemingly gesturing towards himself as he was explaining something to one of the coaches.

Commentators believed he was asking for the ball more. Whatever it was, at least assistant coach and former WNBA star Lindsey Harding looked like she was agreeing with James.
