Michael Jordan’s ICONIC impact recreated by Caitlin Clark in Iowa, reveals coach

Caitlin Clark has had a similar impact on the Iowa Hawkeyes as Michael Jordan did for North Carolina

Before Caitlin Clark came to the WNBA, she was torching college opponents to set the all-time NCAA scoring record. While doing that, she drew in fans by the millions and eventually made the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team a must-watch for fans.

With the Iowa Hawkeyes preparing to start a new era after their star player’s departure, the team’s head coach Jan Jensen brought a Michael Jordan reference when speaking about Clark’s impact. At the Big 10 media sessions, Jensen spoke about the upcoming college basketball season and gave her thoughts on Caitlin Clark‘s impact on the current group of players on the team.

I think Michael Jordan’s still part of North Carolina. They probably don’t go through a recruiting process where someone in that recruiting world doesn’t make some reference that Michael Jordan went there. And I’m really proud of that. It’s there, it’s obvious, we’re going to get a lot of questions about that. It’s out of respect, out of gratitude. But this is the new chapter and we’re excited to be reading this chapter.

The situation was similar to what players going to the University of North Carolina face. Every year, recruits are aware that Michael Jordan developed his game at the university and there is always pressure on them to win games and continue his legacy.

The same will be expected of the Iowa Hawkeyes starting this season. The WNBA rookie phenom has made them one of the most sought-after college basketball programs in the country. Therefore, fans will keep an eye to watch that legacy continue.

Caitlin Clark’s impact sees Iowa Hawkeyes sell out season tickets

Fans who were glued to watching the Iowa Hawkeyes reach the NCAA Championship game in back-to-back years are eager to see it again. It was the only time in the program’s history that they made it to the championship game. Seeing that success brought many top ranked recruits to the team, something that was not easy to achieve not too long ago.

Fans have responded to the hype by buying out their season tickets. This is now the second straight year that the program has sold out its season tickets. This is further proof that the Iowa Hawkeyes is now considered to be one of the premier women’s basketball programs in the country.

It is a legacy the current and upcoming recruits along with head coach Jan Jensen will have to continue. Caitlin Clark is continuing to affect her alma mater even when away from the court, which is certainly Michael Jordan-esque.
