Michael Jordan was ONLY ‘skilled’ player back in 80s era of NBA, claims Anthony Edwards

Michael Jordan was the only skilled player during his generation according to Anthony Edwards

Anthony Edwards is back at it again, this time for boldly stating that NBA legend, Michael Jordan was the only skilled player during his generation. In a recent interview with Lane Florsheim of the Wall Street Journal, he doesn’t believe that MJ’s famed generation had another skilled player.

The Minnesota Timberwolves young guard, by this, downplayed the talents of Hall of Famers and legends of the game such as Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Hakeem Olajuwon and a host of others too numerous to mention, with Michael Jordan the only player to make his cut.

I didn’t watch it back in the day so I can’t speak on it. They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don’t think anybody had skill back then. (Michael Jordan) was the only one that really had skill, you know what I mean?
Anthony Edwards said to the Wall Street Journal

Although this debate isn’t new as it has been a bone of contention among analysts and fans, Anthony Edwards choosing to add his voice to the debate has once again brought attention to himself. Not the first time though, as he recently, during the Paris Olympics, called himself the number one option for a Team USA side that boasted future Hall of Famers and legends like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry

While the league has seen some sort of evolution, it would be interesting to see how the basketball world reacts to his latest comments. However, Ant Man, who is being touted as the future face of the league has done well for himself in his four seasons with the T-Wolves and as the season starts, he would be eager to demonstrate why he said what he said.

Anthony Edwards stays focused after Olympic Gold medal win

Anthony Edwards might have won his first Olympic gold on first attempt but he’s not letting it get to his head. As he also told Lane Florsheim of the Wall Street Journal, his goal is to basically get better at basketball and not let fame or money get in the way.

Keep the main thing the main thing. A lot of people get somewhere and lose sight of the reason they got all this fame or money. I just want to keep getting better at basketball.

He played a key role in Team USA’s victory, as he contributed eight points off the bench in the final against host nation, France. Now he would be geared to approach the new season differently after they lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference finals.

The 2020 NBA Draft number one pick had a standout season with the Timberwolves, as he averaged a career-high 25.9 PPG, 5.1 APG, and 5.4 RPG in the regular season and 27.6 PPG, 7.5 RPG, and 6.5 APG in the playoffs. This was good enough for the T-Wolves to reward him with a five-year rookie max contract worth up to $260 million.
