Fat Joe reveals how Michael Jordan dropped him from $20 Millon deal
The Fat Joe vs. 50 Cent beef is one of the many chapters in one of the most infamous rap feuds between 50 Cent and Ja Rule. While both Joe and Fiddy have made amends in the present day, the beef between the two rappers has a deep history. But on a recent podcast, Fat Joe revealed that the feud cost him nearly $20 Million because of Michael Jordan.
On the latest episode of the Club Shay Shay podcast, host Shannon Sharpe was joined by New York-based rapper Fat Joe. Had the deal gone through, Fat Joe would have preceded Travis Scott as the first rapper in history to earn their own signature sneaker line. Instead, Michael Jordan called off the deal upon hearing about the beef between Fat Joe and 50 Cent. In the eyes of MJ, perhaps signing Joe would have turned many fans of 50 Cent on the West Coast against the Jordan Brand.
As for the beef between 50 Cent and Fat Joe, the duo had a longstanding feud throughout the 2000s. However, they decided to quell their beef in 2012 to honor a late friend. Since then, 50 Cent has publicly stated that he regrets beefing with Joe due to his association with Ja Rule.
Michael Jordan announces return of most iconic sneaker
In a recent post, Michael Jordan and the Jordan brand teased the return of their most iconic sneaker ever. The Air Jordan 1 ‘Banned’ aka ‘Bred’ is widely regarded as the holy grail of sneakers. In an Instagram post, Jordan brand teased the return of the sneaker, announcing that the shoe will hit the shelves again in February 2025 for the 40-year anniversary of its release.
The ‘Banned’ Air Jordan 1 has iconic legacy, as it was widely marketed by Nike as the first flagship sneaker for Michael Jordan. The shoe gained notoriety when it was banned by the NBA for violating the league’s uniform code. However, Michael Jordan continued to wear the sneaker on court, with Nike deciding to pick up the check for the fines imposed on the star athlete.
40 years later, the shoe stands as the definitive game changer in sneaker culture. With many across the globe lining up to get their hands on a pair, it’s going to be a battle to land a pair.
