Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen

The storied legacy of Michael Jordan can never be told without mentioning Scottie Pippen. Pippen, who was often proclaimed the Robin to Jordan’s Batman, was a key part of the Chicago Bull’s success during The 90’s. However, his off court life ever since his retirement has been far from noteworthy.

Be it his ex-wife dating Michael Jordan’s son, or his bankruptcy rumors over a decade ago, Pippen’s life off the court has been far from what would be expected from an NBA Hall of Famer. Most recently, a custom luxury yacht which was formerly owned by Scottie Pippen went up for sale.

The yacht, formerly known as Lady Larsa, named after Pippen’s ex-wife Larsa Pippen, is a marquee custom yacht, which was built over 20 years ago to the specifications of Pippen’s 6’8″ build.

However, in an incredibly underwhelming sale, the luxury yacht reportedly sold for just $2.2 million, a bargain for the general price of an 85-foot luxury yacht, especially one attached to NBA royalty like Pippen. While the retired Bulls legend gave up possession of the craft quite a while ago, it is still surprising to see the yacht go for such a low sale price, though Pippen’s financial situation may have played a part.

In 2011, reports surfaced that Scottie Pippen had filed for bankruptcy, which would be a tremendous surprise for an NBA star of his caliber. While his career NBA earnings well surpassed $100 million in the 90’s and 2000’s, he was still amongst the lowest paid stars in the league during his prime years with the Bulls.

It is important to note that his financial struggles, due to a number of bad investments, were blown out of proportion. This eventually led to a legal struggle between Pippen and multiple media outlets, whom he had sued for libel and defamation for spreading misinformation about his bankruptcy. The case, however, was dismissed by District Courts.

Scottie Pippen continues to share his ‘crypto-currency’ quest

Scottie Pippen was dominant on both ends of the floor during his NBA career. But his life since then has taken on different pursuits, particularly in the crypto-currency field. Over the past several months, the Chicago Bulls legend has become an unlikely yet vocal advocate for Bitcoin, flooding social media with cryptic messages, AI-generated imagery, and some really bold claims about the cryptocurrency market.

His latest social media activity comes amid a volatile period for Bitcoin. With Bitcoin experiencing sharp price swings, Pippen took to social media to weigh in, using a basketball analogy to make his point.

You don’t wait until the fourth quarter to start scoring. Bitcoin.

For someone whose legacy is deeply rooted in basketball, his pivot to digital assets is definitely a surprise to many, but Scottie Pippen is unfazed. His message, accompanied by a meme, was Pippen’s way of telling his followers not to hesitate when the market dips. Essentially, he’s pushing the idea that just like in basketball, timing is everything, and those who act early will reap the rewards.

His recent surge in crypto-related posts follows his appearance at a Miami Bitcoin conference alongside industry heavyweight Michael Saylor. His frequent use of sports metaphors and AI-generated images suggests he’s trying to engage both his basketball fans and crypto traders in a unique way.
