The charter agreement negotiation between NASCAR and the teams have taken a wild turn ahead of the playoff race. The teams were given an ultimatum to sign the new deal before the post-season starts and it is confirmed that other than two team, everyone else has signed the deal that will last till the 2031 season.
Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin co-owned 23XI Racing was the first to refuse alongside Ford team Front Row Motorsports. Now the Toyota team, that has won the regular season championship last Sunday with Tyler Reddick, has released a statement on the decision to not sign the contract, siting the lack of opportunity to fairly bargain as the reason.

23XI decided to not meet a NASCAR-imposed deadline last night to sign Charter agreements for its two cars for 2025-2031. 23XI’s position, as stated in a letter to NASCAR, is that we did not have an opportunity to fairly bargain for a new Charter contract.23XI Racing said via a statement.
Bubba Wallace’s team further stated that the decision was notified to NASCAR via a later. They are now looking to have constructive discussion with the sanctioning body to resolve the situation and find a fair agreement that will benefit all the parties involved.
We notified NASCAR what issues needed to be addressed, in writing, at the deadline. We are interested in engaging in constructive discussions with NASCAR to address these issues and move forward in a way that comes to a fair resolution, while strengthening the sport we all love.23XI Racing added.
The teams remain comminated to racing in NASCAR
Despite the war with NASCAR, the teams are determined to race at the top level in the sport. But they are not ready to compromise on their belief that the sport should have fair and equitable governing practices.
At 23XI Racing, we remain committed to competing at the highest level while also standing firm in our belief that NASCAR should be governed by fair and equitable practices.23XI explained.
The situation NASCAR and teams has found themselves in is unprecedent. There is a possibility of a legal tussle happening if one of the two parties decided not to oblige to the sport, and if it happens there would be lot of negative consequences for everyone involved.
