The day basketball fans have been waiting for has arrived. Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic will get his chance to exact revenge against the Dallas Mavericks, exactly 23 days after they sent him away in a trade that shocked the entire world.

This game might not be the all-out revenge outing he would have preferred if it was at his previous proving grounds. But he is still playing against his former teammates and against the franchise that felt they did not need him anymore.

Soon after the trade, his expressions and body language suggested he was seething in anger. Knowing that, his biggest sponsor, Michael Jordan‘s $7 billion Jordan brand, decided to up the ante. They released a teaser earlier when someone depicting Luka Doncic was seen changing the number plates of a car.

He changed it from ‘Texas 77’ to ‘California 77’, signifying the trade. Then George Strait‘s ‘All my Ex’s live in Texas’ played in the background as Doncic got into the car and started the engine. Then the song fades out to the angry rasp of the car’s twin-turbo V8, and the Jordan Brand trailer culminated with a message.

Full tank. No Mercy.

This was a shout out to the Dallas Mavericks that they better watch out for their former franchise cornerstone. Playing at his new home with nearly 19000 fans cheering him on might not end up in a good way for them.

Mavs GM Nico Harrison observes Luka Doncic warming up

Mavericks GM Nico Harrison might have to go back to Dallas with a long face if that happens. That is after fans have been calling for the team to fire him. Now he has made his way to Los Angeles to watch his former player play for the Lakers.

A video clip was shared a while earlier where Luka Doncic was seen going through his warmup motions. But a close look at the video and one can see Nico Harrison leaning against the scorer’s table. His eyes were fixed on the Slovenian superstar while he was talking to ESPN’s Malika Andrews.

Pictures have seemingly proven that the 25-year-old has dropped a lot of weight in recent days. One of the primary complaints the Dallas Mavericks had towards Doncic was his conditioning. It could be that the GM was witnessing first-hand how much leaner his former superstar looked.

The next game between the two teams will take place at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on April 9th. By then, the home team should have all their injured players back and in rhythm. At the same time, Doncic and his teammates will have their own chemistry running at full tilt.

He and his Lakers firing on all cylinders against his former team will itself be a sight to watch. Then to have those fans in the building who are still protesting against their own ownership group will only go on to add fuel to the fire.
