Michael Jordan’s ex-agent David Falk did not hold back with his recent assessment of current NBA star LeBron James on the Stephen A. Smith Show.

The basketball world has long been split by superteams. Purists believe that they undermine the spirit of competition by stacking the deck and destroying the allure of natural rivalries. The NBA great LeBron James has been a regular target of criticism when it comes to this matter. Notably, the legendary NBA player, Michael Jordan‘s agent, David Falk, also believes the same.
He made a recent appearance on the Stephen A. Smith show to double down on his stance on why Jordan has a bigger impact than James in the world of basketball. For Falk, Jordan is the GOAT of the sport and brought major changes much before any other basketball player. He opened up on various topics as to why Jordan is the ‘real’ GOAT over James.
I think what Michael does, goes way beyond the court. I think on the court, Michael obviated the center position…the way Michael played, he made it unnecessary to have a great seven….and I think he had a huge impact on the game. Secondly, and i think more importantly, Michael broke down every barrier that existed for professional basketball players… to become national marketing brand ambassadors.

Falk does make sense in his recent statement about Jordan. MJ was the sole player to bring a shift in the world of basketball players, especially ‘African-American’ basketball players, as Falk puts it. In addition, Jordan was also the first ever billionaire as a basketball player. Falk also stated that MJ’s ‘Jordan’ shoe brand created a pathway for other players to sign shoe deals with sports brands.
Falk claims that, despite his admiration for LeBron, their careers are very different lies at the center of this resurgent discussion. He contends that Jordan’s legacy was established without the contemporary luxury of selecting teammates or controlling the makeup of the team—a tactic that has come to be associated with James’ time.
However, this comment has attracted major attention from the NBA community, sparking many debates lately. Not only the fans, but James’ agent Rich Paul himself chimed in on this matter on the Rich Eisen show a few days ago.
David Falk on ‘one thing Michael Jordan’ would never do
The infamous “The Decision” by LeBron James is notable for being the impetus behind the resurgence of manufactured juggernauts. He joined Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami after leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010, and he went on to rule the NBA in the years that followed. However, Jordan’s former agent, David Falk insists that this is something MJ would’ve never done in his career.
David Falk said on the Stephen A. Smith show, “Jordan wanted to beat the best, not join them. ‘Are you nuts? I would never want to play with Bird and Magic. I wanted to beat their butts every night on a one-on-one competitive level.'”
This is what sets James apart from the Chicago Bulls great. Without using any short cuts, Jordan wanted to accomplish everything with the squad that selected him. Aside from this, Falk acknowledged that “The Decision” was flawed and feels that it could have been handled much more expertly.
Stephen A. Smith’s bold claim about LeBron James and his ‘camp’
Stephen A. Smith is not settling his beef with LeBron James anytime soon, especially after his recent take on the First Take Show. Smith blamed James and his inner circle of the Los Angeles Lakers for the perceived “negativity” surrounding the NBA’s greatest-of-all-time (GOAT) argument. Smith also claimed that James is the second-best NBA player of all time.
Stephen A. Smith said, To me, LeBron James is No. 2 all-time. The thing that we have to understand that’s important about this conversation is when we debate the GOAT, the negativity of it comes from LeBron and his camp. Nobody else.”

In addition, Smith underlined the rarity of this distinction given the league’s decades-long history and stressed that placing James second after Jordan is a statement of enormous respect. It remains to be seen if James or anyone in his inner circle responds to these recent remarks made by Smith.
