Michael Lombardi blasted the Carolina Panthers management after the Diontae Johnson trade. The American football executive criticized the leadership as the worst he had ever seen.

The Carolina Panthers are 1-7 after Week 8 as the worst performing team in the league in terms of point differential. Cody Benjamin has ranked first-year coach Dave Canales as the worst first-year head coach.

Canales drew ire at the beginning of the season for benching Bryce Young early in the season after poor starts. Backup Andy Dalton, although came in hot, cooled off and was replaced by Young once again after Dalton sustained a thumb injury in a car accident.

Heading into Week 9, the Panthers will be starting Young once again. These are just surface-level issues, as the Panthers are haunted by some deep trouble as well. They haven’t had a consistent coaching lineup for some time now. The leadership led by David Tepper is in shambles, pressed underneath the weight of poor results and management.

Appearing as a guest speaker on the Pat McAfee show, Lombardi lambasted Tepper and questioned his ability to steer the ship. Lombardi, who seemed bamboozled by the Panthers’ decisions, acknowledged that the trade was ridiculous. He also asserted that Tepper should stick to charity work.

Somebody explain to me what Carolina is doing. The Panthers basically just gave Diontae Johnson to the Ravens. This really was a ridiculous trade and I have no idea what the Panthers are doing. (David Tepper) should focus on his charity work and let somebody come in and run his football team. (The Panthers) are going nowhere fast. I’ve never seen a franchise as bad as Carolina.

Michael Lombardi said

The Ravens have agreed in principle to acquire wide receiver Diontae Johnson from the Carolina Panthers, pending a physical, as announced by the team on Tuesday. In the trade, the Ravens will send a fifth-round pick to the Panthers in exchange for Johnson and Carolina’s sixth-round selection, according to Carolina’s announcement.

Baltimore Ravens are the clear winners in the Diontae Johnson trade

Baltimore Ravens dusted off the initial hiccups pretty quickly. The offense led by Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry is one of the most explosive duos in history. Henry, who was passed by the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason, made his mark in purple and black pacing to break the single season record most rushing yards.

The addition of yet another Pro Bowl wide receiver for limited returns is a win in many analysts’ books. Johnson arrives with 30 receptions for 357 yards and three touchdowns from his time with the Panthers. Ravens HC John Harbaugh noted in an interview with Sports Illustrated that Johnson would boost the Ravens’ offense. Furthermore, he expressed that Johnson could also be a lending hand in special teams as well.

Harbaugh heaped positive reviews on Johnson, adding that he is fast and talented. The Ravens are also looking forward to using Johnson as a punt returner as well. Although the position would be new to Johnson, the wideout noted that he welcomes the new challenge and assist the Ravens in any way possible.
