Newly acquired Brooklyn Nets star Michael Porter Jr. is usually a quiet athlete when it comes to on-court demeanor. He avoids talking to other players and goes about his business of playing basketball.

Off the court, the 27-year-old is a different personality. It is not that he suddenly becomes this talkative version of himself, but it seems he prefers to talk about things other than basketball.

His podcast, Curious Mike, has been anything but typical for a basketball player, as he invites surprising guests and explores topics that other athletes would generally shy away from.

One of the topics he has recently started to explore is NBA betting and its effect on players. While on the podcast, One Night with Steiny, he said this:

Think about it if you can get all your homies rich by telling yo bet 10K on my under..this one game imma act like I got an injury, and imma sit out. And they all get a lil bag cause you did it one game… Some people come from nothing and they think like that.

The NBA champion added that his brother, Jontay Porter‘s situation, was unfortunate. However, he believes that there will be many athletes who are implored by their friends to help them out.

He believes this will only get worse as sports betting goes hand in hand with leagues like the NBA, NFL, and others. Michael Porter Jr. also revealed how players get death threats, and they are left to fend for themselves in a world where they are indirectly influencing someone’s finances.

Fans blast Michael Porter Jr. for revealing too much

Basketball fans were already reeling from Michael Porter Jr.‘s recent take on his brother, Jontay Porter’s gambling ‘vice’. They were again left shaking their heads when the Brooklyn Nets star again seemingly justified how players get caught up in gambling.

They believe the Missouri star is revealing a lot of information that could end up becoming a problem for him and other athletes. Some players have revealed how they get targeted by bettors for impacting their parlays.

At a time when the league, betting companies, and federal authorities are looking into athletes aiding gambling, fans believe this justification from MPJ was unnecessary. Check out examples of those reactions below:

Michael Porter Jr. could have worded it differently so that athletes do not feel the aftereffects of his words. It seems the 27-year-old is on a quest to speak his mind and wants to bring his brothers’ situations to project them in a different light.

Michael Porter Jr. details what he is looking for in a woman

The last time Michael Porter Jr. spoke about gambling as a vice for his brother Jontay Porter, he revealed that women are a vice for him. While on this podcast, the Nets star added this to his growing list of bizarre takes.

She got to bring something to the table… She got to be able to cook, clean help me mentally… You got to be able to do something. These girls today want to live like queens and do nothing.

The 2023 NBA champion brought up his mother as a reference, pointing out that she raised 8 children and supported his father when he was out of work.

In contrast, he believes that women nowadays do not want to do anything and just want to live off what the men earn. That is not alright in his books, and he expects anyone coming into his life to be his support system.
