Caitlin Clark and some of the WNBA’s best players have elevated their game to a level where some believe they could play and win against NBA stars. Michael Porter Jr., however, does not think so.
A’ja Wilson was the first to claim that she could beat an NBA star when she told Josh Hart that she could beat him in a 1v1 game. The Knicks forward was not ready to agree, but she claimed she could.
This sparked a major debate amongst fans, with some believing new generation stars such as Wilson and Clark can give some of the men in the NBA a run for their money.
On the other hand, many of them did not agree with this purely based on the vast gulf in athleticism and physical traits. Former champion Jeff Teague claimed that high school boys and backup players were better than the best women.
Michael Porter Jr. was on popular streamer Plaqueboymax‘s live session on August 29th, where they were talking about the WNBA and its comparison to the men’s game.
If the WNBA All-Star team, if the Olympic team played the McDonald’s All-American high school players, it’s one of them things, bro. You can’t dance around it. In high school, when I was in high school, we were grown men… If we play the WNBA All-Star team, that, no disrespect, bro. I’m not even gonna say it.

Michael Porter Jr.‘s logic was that when he was in high school, the McDonald’s All-American team of his era featured him, Trae Young, Deandre Ayton, Jaren Jackson Jr., PJ Washington, etc. He believes there is no way Caitlin Clark and the WNBA’s best could beat them even at their age.
Fans support Michael Porter Jr.’s diss at Caitlin Clark and WNBA stars
Michael Porter Jr. is known for his wild opinions, some of them being controversial. Then others border on the edge of being radical. Fans believe this opinion was surprisingly honest.
They believe that, as much as WNBA superstars such as Caitlin Clark and A’ja Wilson can try, there is no way they are beating some of the best high school boys.
The level of athleticism takes the women out of the game, and the physicality takes it up some notches. Even if the Indiana Fever superstar were to launch threes from distance, there is no way Wilson can stop any of those boys from throwing down dunks as and when they please.
Fans clarified that there is no way to make this opinion controversial, as the Brooklyn Nets star was speaking the truth. Check out examples of those reactions below.
this isn't remotely controversial

Anyone who has hooped at varsity or above knows this

Of course they would dominate them. Those guys were throwing down 360 dunks in high school. No controversy here at all…. but the women will argue this.

It would…. By 40

Wouldn’t have just beat. It would’ve been a huge blowout. This is not saying anything negative about female sports.

All american team? The boys state champs from Idaho would probably beat them.

He is spitting facts though. I knew a few in HS that would demoralize CC easy. It’s just science when you get to a certain level. Shouldn’t even be a heated debate.

😂😂😂 I am not sure if I should agree to this or not 😂😂. But I love watching the WNBA. 😂😂😂

Since the women are in the midst of their season, it is unlikely that they will want to answer any questions related to this controversy. But fans claim that no matter what they say, boys will run rings around them.
Michael Porter Jr. once compared WNBA stars to ping pong players
The women of the WNBA are fighting to get paid what they deserve after the league enjoyed tremendous growth over the past two seasons. Back in January 2024, before Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese started this growth, Michael Porter Jr. said this while on The Pivot.

I know these females (WNBA players) want to get paid more, and they’re very talented. But so is a famous ping-pong player. Like, the best ping pong player is just as talented as the best NBA player. That doesn’t mean that they’re going to get paid the same, because it’s what the people wanna watch.

A lot has changed since this opinion, but it seems with his latest comment, he is trying to say that the women of the WNBA do not have the skills to be paid like men.
this wasn’t advocating for women’s hoops at all smh it’s actually insulting https://t.co/bwbJDLixIe pic.twitter.com/NArMYhzTvJ

He does reiterate that he wants the women to succeed, but comments like these do not help matters. Maybe he thinks it is better if the comparisons do not happen and the women get paid what they truly deserve.
