Michael Porter Jr. was already going through the pain of his younger brother Jontay Porter being handed a lifetime ban by the NBA for betting. Now another of his younger siblings has brought even more pain to the Porter family. Today, Coban Porter was sentenced to 8 years in prison for killing a woman in a car crash while driving drunk.
Coban Porter’s ran a red light and crashed into another car in the late hours of January 22nd, 2023. A woman driving the car was instantly killed. Her passenger sustained serious injuries. After pleading guilty, today was the date for sentencing. Reports from 9News reporter Steve Staeger confirmed that Porter was sentenced to 6 years for vehicular homicide and 2 years for vehicular assault. With both sentences running concurrently, he will serve a total of 8 years in prison. Coban Porter was playing for the University of Denver and wanted to follow in his big brother’s footsteps.
This comes just 2 days after the NBA issued a lifetime ban on Jontay Porter. The former Toronto Raptors forward was under investigation for betting on NBA games. He also faced an investigation for aiding bettors in gaining an edge on their parlays.
It marks a trying week for the Denver Nuggets superstar. After all, seeing one brother lose his career and another 8 years of his life is not easy to digest. Michael Porter Jr. missed practice with his team as he was present in the courthouse for Coban’s sentencing.
