Michael Vaughan has struck again as he is very displeased with how things have been working in the ongoing T20 World Cup. In fact, such is the displeasure of the former England captain, that he even went onto say that this T20 World Cup is made for Team India and no one else.
In one of the latest episodes of the Club Prairie Fire Podcast, Michael Vaughan pointed it out that the venues and the timings of the game have somehow been suited to max out the Indian viewership. He also said it out loud that in bigger tournaments like these ICC should be fairer. Echoing his sentiments, former Australian captain, Adam Gilchrist also pointed out that the Indian fans are of somewhat similar opinion.
It's their tournament, isn't it? Literally, it's their tournament. They get to play whenever they want, they get to know exactly where their semi-finals are, they play every single game in the morning so people can watch them in India on the television. I get that money's a big play in the world of cricket and I get that in bilateral series, but you would think that when you get to a World Cup the ICC should be a little bit fairer to everybody.Michael Vaughan said on the podcast.
He further added that when one team comes to the World Cup, no matter the reasons, one cannot be inclined towards a particular team, and that is where biases are formed and that can lead to unfair results in the tournament. Gilchrist also thinks in a similar trajectory.
Gilchrist underscored that there are a lot of Indian passionate supporters who believe what is going on isn’t right and are also willing to accept that. But Gilly further added that this Indian team is the strongest on the paper and they can turn any game in their favour.
A glance at India’s journey in the 2024 T20 World Cup
India played England in the semi-final, played in Guyana. In the group stages, they drubbed Ireland, Pakistan and USA while surging past the likes of Bangladesh, Australia and Afghanistan in the Super Eight to make the cut for the semis.
Riding high on some imperious all-round display, Team India will be hoping to make it to the finals where South Africa awaits the winner of the second semi. Rain prevails in Guyana for the time being and if it is to continue then India will sail through, considering a better finish in the Super Eights and the Group Stages.
