Former first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, praised American gymnasts Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles for their sportsmanship towards Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade. The iconic gesture summed up the whole spirit of the Olympics.
The Olympic Games also posted the iconic picture. While Baltimore Ravens star Marlon Humphrey had a rather sour take on the situation, Michelle Obama made her appreciation known. She congratulated the ladies through a post on X, saying she was not over the beautiful moment of sisterhood and sportsmanship.
Simone Biles had only positive things to say about their gesture. She mentioned that she didn’t care about who won or lost. She also spoke for Chiles, stating that they were always going to keep a positive attitude and support their competitors. Biles believed that everyone worked equally hard for that moment.
So you have to give them their flowers. And that's exactly what me and Jordan were doing, and we were so happy for her. She deserved it. She had the best floor routine of the day and in the Olympics. So it's like, yeah, she deserved it.Simone Biles on NBC Today
Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles won silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the floor exercise at the Paris Olympics, while the gold went to Rebeca Andrade. The moment went viral when Biles and Chiles bowed to Andrade on the podium after receiving their medals. Andrade had overcome the challenges of three ACL surgeries to win gold, and that was the reason behind their gesture of respect.
Marlon Humphrey in hot waters over ‘disgusting’ statement for Simone Biles’ bow
Marlon Humphrey had a rather pessimistic take on Biles and Chiles bowing to their competitor Rebeca Andrade. He took to X to tweet away his disgust for their gesture. The fans heavily criticized Humphrey for his take.
The fans gave Marlon Humphrey quite some moral policing. He garnered plenty of attention from the Brazilian audience as well. A fan commented that he was famous in Brazil now, and not for something good.
Later, Humphrey tweeted saying he was ‘lowkey getting cooked‘. He further said that he was getting cussed out in Brazil on Instagram. Suffice to say, his take wasn’t well-received on social media.
