Michelle Obama joked that ESPN’s talk shows, particularly those with Stephen A. Smith, are similar to The Real Housewives of Atlanta on her IMO podcast, with her brother Craig Robinson. The network’s dramatic tone, with hosts shouting and arguing all the time, reminds her of reality TV, she joked. Obama even went as far as to claim that Smith would make ‘a great Real Housewive’.
This garnered immense attention from the fans as well as former NBA players, one of them being Patrick Beverley, so much so that he took to the Pat Bev podcast, to touch upon this topic. Beverley had an interesting insight, claiming that controversies and trolling someone are what sells on the internet right now, over sending a message to the community.
On a defending end, like, this is what we created too, as people being on the Internet and as people like talking about different things…It’s not about the message anymore. It’s about who the most controversial is, right? And that’s starting to sell.

Beverley also presented an intriguing argument concerning the remarks made by the former First Lady. He asserted that Michelle Obama had to say these things to attract attention to her recently launched podcast. Beverley also lamented that to be relevant and popular in today’s environment, one must troll others or do something absurd.
Regardless of the subject matter, this has been the case recently with the emergence of podcasts and interviews. As for Smith, he did not keep quiet, having his fair share of responses on this ongoing controversial matter. He disagreed with Obama’s comparison, defending ESPN debates as substantive and asserting they’re different from reality TV.
Smith has not responded to Beverley’s take on this matter, but it probably might not be long until this podcast clip reaches him.
Stephen A. Smith responds to Michelle Obama’s remarks involving him and ESPN
After Michelle Obama compared Stephen A. Smith and his ESPN show to The Real Housewives, the NBA community was anticipating a comeback from the famed-analyst. That’s exactly what he did. In a recent appearance on Hannity, a program on Fox News, Smith made his intentions clear regarding Obama’s remarks involving him and ESPN.
There’s no relationship (between us and Housewives). These are some of the greatest athletes on the planet earth that play professional sports … as opposed to reality TV stars that can barely act.”

In addition, Smith also claimed that he would never speak anything bad about the former First Lady, but did not agree with the characterization that came from her last month. Smith stated that he has immense respect for her and the work she has done for the nation during her service. Nevertheless, it does not seem as if this would turn into some full-fledged war of words.
Stephen A. Smith recently ridiculed the Democratic Party
Some may find it absurd that Stephen A. Smith would move from being an ESPN celebrity to the president of the United States, but one cannot deny it. Smith talked about his presidential campaign on Friday night’s episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher.” He also expressed his “disgusted” feelings about the Democratic Party to Maher, and stated that he cannot rule out running for president for that reason alone.
Listen, life is good, man. I mean, I leave the door open. I can’t imagine myself doing it, but I haven’t ruled it out, because I’m disgusted with what I’m seeing on the left. I look at the national voice for the Democratic Party, it is non-existent.
Stephen A. Smith told Bill Maher
Smith has previously declared that if he is put on the ballot in 2028, he will run as a Democrat. But for this to happen, a lot of decisions and work must be done.
