Being drafted by the Phoenix Suns back in 2018, Mikal Bridges has been a crucial part of the team in their finals run against the Milwaukee Bucks. Having played for the team ever since he got drafted, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets back in 2023 and was embraced by the Nets franchise.

Now with the NBA teams finding the best upgrade for the lineup, Bridges got traded to the New York Knicks. He will play alongside his high school teammates Jalen Brunson, Dante DiVincenzo, and Josh Hart. With the Knicks having proved their capabilities in last season’s playoffs, Bridges will prove to be a crucial add-on to the team’s lineup and can help them win a title.

In return for trading their former forward, the Nets received Bojan Bogdanovich, 4 unprotected first-round picks, an unprotected pick-swap, and a second-rounder. Trading bridges might have seemed to be a valid option for future draft picks aiming for better performance in the future seasons. To attain the future young talents and to form a team that will consistently win matches in the future seasons this trade is fair.

But having changed two different franchises in the same city, Bridges might have possessed mixed emotions for this trade. Moreover, not being a free agent and getting traded for a few first-round picks might have had an impact on Bridges. While the trade might seem unprecedented, Bridges can now play alongside his high school teammates.

Mikal Bridges, having played for the Phoenix Suns had never expected to get traded for Kevin Durant. Getting drafted to a team after having given years of your initial career to the franchise and suddenly getting traded for a superstar, Bridges had a tough feeling about it.

Kevin Durant who was part of the Big 3 in Brooklyn alongside Kyrie Irving and James Harden, failed to deliver on the hype. Assessing his trade options, Durant chose to sign with the Suns and the franchise gave up their forward in return. Bridges recalled having joked about the trade to Durant days before it happened.
