Mike Evans is not be considered a flashy standout receiver. Instead, football fans know him as the ever reliable big target who has done his part for the likes of Tom Brady and now Baker Mayfield.
He has been a mainstay for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ever since they selected him 7th overall in the 2014 draft. Since then, he has been consistent year-in year-out, and has been a symbol of excellence for his teammates.
Usually wide receivers crossing the age of 30 play with a bit more caution. All those hits and runs tend to break their bodies to the point that they cannot sustain their elite production for much longer.
Evans was already dealing with a hamstring injury, which he sustained during their Week 3 win over the New York Jets. He was back to take on the Detroit Lions in Week 7, and was hoping to continue where he left.
After not being targeted in the first quarter, QB Baker Mayfield decided to take a shot at his veteran receiver midway through the second quarter. On a 2nd and 5, the QB sent the ball hurling down the middle.
Evans paced himself accurately and, after tracking the ball’s trajectory, caught it with both hands as Lions cornerback Rock Ya-Sin chased down and tackled him.
As the wideout came down on the ground, the ball came loose. It was ruled an incompletion, but more importantly, cameras captured Mike Evans lying motionless with his face down.

After medical staff rushed over, they realized he was out of sorts. Finally, they called for the cart and helped the visibly shaken up 6′ 5″ star off the field.
Mike Evans will miss significant time due to injury
When Mike Evans lay motionless on the field, his teammates looked stunned at what just happened. It was not as if he was injured due to a rough play, or a bad hit.
He came down on the field just as the wideout has done throughout his life as a football player. However, as he lay motionless, and was gasping for breath, the reaction of Baker Mayfield and the others seemed to suggest that something serious had happened to their veteran teammate.
Eventually, Ari Meirov revealed that the Texas native had suffered a broken clavicle as well as a concussion. If it were just the latter, he could have returned as early as next week.

However, the concern is about the broken clavicle. That will sideline Mike Evans for a considerable amount of time, if not for the full season.
Mike Evans will not be able to break Jerry Rice’s record
Last season, when Mike Evans set his 11th straight 1000-yard campaign, the Buccaneers receiver matched the legendary Jerry Rice‘s record for consecutive seasons.

This season, he could have claimed the record for himself had he caught passes of 1000 yards. In his 3 games so far, the 32-year-old has amassed just 140 yards. This means he would need to average 78 yards in the remaining games to set that record.
Now, that record is almost out of his hands as Mike Evans will be forced to sit on the sidelines watching his teammates go to work. The record stays shared between him and Rice.
