One would imagine players heading into their twelfth season in the league will show a bit of fatigue or take the backseat so that younger players can take the spotlight. That’s not the case for a player such as Mike Evans.
Evans, in particular, seems as nimble as he was when he first put on the Buccaneers jersey back in 2014. He is 31 and has racked up 800+ catches, over 12,600 yards, and 105 touchdowns, but he’s still preparing for the new season with purpose.
Evans leads a loaded Buccaneers offense that boasts the likes of Chris Godwin, Cade Otton, Bucky Irving, and Jalen McMillan. In the summer, the NFC South franchise added highly touted Ohio State graduate Emeka Egbuka 19th overall and Oregon’s Tez Johnson in the seventh round, who came with a 40-yard completion time of 4.51 seconds.
Despite the increased competition, Evans remains the leader in the locker room and on the training ground.
He (Mike Evans) blocks. He runs routes. It looks like he’s having more fun than he’s ever had and he’s found the fountain of youth.

Last season, Mike Evans etched his name in the record books. He joined Hall of Famer Jerry Rice as the only other wide receiver in history to record 11 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons.

The Buccaneers were built to go the distance last season. Quarterback Baker Mayfield threw 4500 yards and 41 touchdowns in the regular season. It was Mayfield who set up Evans’ 1000-receiving-yard catch on the final day against the New Orleans Saints.
Mayfield and Evans came close to defeating the Washington Commanders in the wild-card round. They lost 23-20 due to a garbage-time field goal from the Commanders’ kicker.
Mike Evans aims to make the 50th anniversary of the Buccaneers a special one
The Buccaneers are set to play their 50th season in the NFL since entering the league as an expansion team. Mike Evans aims to make the year a memorable one for the club’s fans.

I’m just happy that we have a really great team, and we’re using this training camp to put everything together to have one of the best seasons for the 50th. I’m excited to put on a great show for y’all.

Evans signed a two-year, $52 million contract extension in 2024, so he will enter free agency after the end of the upcoming campaign. The Bucs will definitely try to re-sign one of their greatest sons.

Before that, the Bucs need to tackle the new season head-on. They are going to play against several teams that finished .500 or above last season, including the Bills, Eagles, Rams, Lions, and Texans.
