The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were having a dream season as they beat the Washington Commanders, the Detroit Lions, and the Philadelphia Eagles at the start of the season. However, things turned for the worse when star wideouts Mike Evans and Chris Godwin went down in the same game with injuries.
As the team approaches the end of the season, QB Baker Mayfield can breathe a sigh of relief as he is set to get Mike Evans back on the field this Sunday. Head Coach Todd Bowles told reporters on Friday via Jenna Laine of ESPN that the wideout is set to make his return against the New York Giants.
The 4-6 Buccaneers have held on despite their wide receivers going out. The NFC South is the least competitive division in all of football this year. Tampa is two wins short of securing the first spot in the division.
Mike Evans will get a chance to keep his 1,000-yard season streak ongoing
With Evans’ return, there is still hope for the 31-year-old to maintain his ongoing streak of recording the most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Currently, he has 10 consecutive seasons and requires 665 yards more this season with seven games remaining to accomplish this feat.
He will need to average 95 yards per game if he intends to reach the goal. It is possible for Evans to still get there, but the road to 1K will be rough.
The Buccaneers have an easy schedule for the rest of the season. They take on the Giants, Panthers twice, Raiders, Chargers, Cowboys, and Saints. They can win another 5 of the 7 games. Evans is eager to join the team back.
The Buccaneers take on a struggling 2-8 Giants roster that will feature backup Tommy DeVito starting in place of Daniel Jones this week.
