Every year before the season begins, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones promises big things in order to end Dallas’ Super Bowl drought, but then fans realize none of those are true. 2024 is not different because even after saying that he was ‘all in’ not once but several times, the Cowboys’ roster got weaker than last season, which may get worse after this year with all the pending contract negotiations.
The Cowboys last appeared in the football’s biggest game in Super Bowl XXX. Since then, Jerry-Land hasn’t seen any deep playoff runs, not even an NFC Championship appearance. It’s not as if they don’t have the funds to keep players happy. They recently retained their title of the ‘Most Valuable Sports Franchise’ by becoming the first sports venture to touch the $10 billion evaluation.
Despite the accolade, Jerry Jones comes off as someone who is nonchalant, which led to Mike Greenberg calling the organization cheap.
"The Dallas Cowboys are a cheap franchise & their cash spending on players is the lowest in the NFL..
— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) August 14, 2024
It was the lowest last year, the lowest this year & projects to be the lowest next year..

He [Jerry Jones] bought the Dallas Cowboys in 1989 for $140 million, they’re now worth, as we saw yesterday, over $10 billion, which renders what I’m about to say hard to understand, but it is true… They are cheap. [Yes] They are a cheap franchise.Mike Greenberg said while appearing on a recent episode of the Pat McAfee Show.
Any Cowboys fan would attest to that fact because of the long-suffering and mockery they have endured throughout the years.
Mike Greenberg broke down his reason behind calling Jerry Jones and the Cowboys cheap franchise
Being the most recognizable and marketable sports venture doesn’t mean they can invest their earnings in the team. Most of it goes into maintaining the stadium, facilities, travel, and various other expenditures like food and lodging during away days. In that category, Jerry Jones ranked the 12th best owner according to the NFLPA in 2023, and in contrast, Clark Hunt, the owner of the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, was dead last.

When it comes to paying players and the team staff, owners have to rely on a set budget from the NFL committee, better known as the salary cap. Usually, the owners appoint a general manager to keep track of all the transactions, but in the Cowboys case, Jerry Jones handles everything by himself. In Arlington, the 81-year-old’s word is equivalent to the law.
However, Jones hasn’t managed the proceedings as a visionary like the way he does outside of football. It led to the Cowboys ranking dead last in spending money because they didn’t have the money to spend due to the inflated and delayed contract negotiations.
Their cash spending every single season, look this up, text my boy Hembo, and have him send you the numbers. Every year, their total cash outlay in players is the lowest in the NFL. It was the lowest last year, the lowest this year, and projects to be the lowest next year. They don’t spend money.
Mike Greenberg said.
Greenberg is spot on because as per Spotrac the Cowboys will once again be at the bottom of the salary cap list. They have to pay mountains of money to quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and edge rusher Micah Parsons besides a whole host of others in 2024 and 2025.
