Mike Macdonald‘s meteoric rise has taken the NFL by storm. After leading the Seattle Seahawks to a double-digit season in the post-Russell Wilson era, Macdonald orchestrated better in his second year in charge of the NFC West club. The Seahawks won Super Bowl LX – Macdonald’s first and the club’s second championship triumph since entering the league in 1976.
The Seahawks had to go through the New England Patriots to be crowned as the new champions of football. Macdonald appeared on the Rich Eisen Show this week and revealed that he received a “couple hundred” messages on his phone shortly after the game ended at Levi’s Stadium. Among them was a message from Patriots legendary quarterback Tom Brady.
Eisen joked that Brady had inquired about offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak. With a big smile on his face, Macdonald replied, “I did tell him that thanks for stealing our OC.”

Following a disastrous first year as the minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, Brady set out to look for a new head coach. At the top of his list was the Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak. A day after Seattle became the new champs, the Raiders appointed Kubiak their new HC.
This opened a vacancy at the OC position in Seattle. Four days after the Super Bowl parade, the Seahawks appointed former San Francisco 49ers assistant Brian Fleury as the new OC. During his inaugural press conference, Fleury hinted that he will not stray too much from Kubiak’s philosophy.
I’ve already started to dive into everything that Klint [Kubiak] was doing here last year, and the goal would be to maintain as much of that as possible, but there’s also areas where we can supplement that with things that we’ve developed and done in San Francisco.

Brady wasn’t the only familiar face to contact Macdonald after the win. His former boss, John Harbaugh, reached out with a humble message. Harbaugh, the longtime Ravens head coach, recently left the Baltimore franchise to take over the vacant position in New York with the Giants.

Speaking with the media this week, Harbaugh shared his thoughts about his former disciple.
I have [spoken with him], it went great. It was a big hug, you know, congratulations. He’s all smiles right now, can’t imagine why. [It’s] well deserved. Proud of Mike, one of my favorite people.

That said, Macdonald has yet to watch the tape from the 29-13 win over the Patriots.
Mike Macdonald says he still hasn’t watched the Super Bowl tape. He’s not sure when he will. Says he has a trip to Hawaii planned for next week and definitely ain’t watching it out there.

Mike Macdonald provided an update on Tory Horton and Zach Charbonnet
2025 was a successful season for the Seahawks, but they also had their fair share of issues to deal with, primarily tackling injuries of players. Among them were wide receiver Tory Horton and running back Zach Charbonnet.
Horton suffered a shin fracture early on in the season, and Charbonnet tore his ACL, opening the door for Kenneth Walker to have a breakout campaign that concluded with an MVP trophy in the Super Bowl. With Walker’s future in doubt, Charbonnet could play a key role in the title defense.
If you’re betting on anybody, you’re going to bet on Zach [Charbonnet], so we’ll go from there. But he’s not going to do anything in the spring or anything like that.

Seattle found several heroes it can count on in the new season. Quarterback Sam Darnold completed 67.7% of passes for 4048 yards and threw 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught 119 passes for 1793 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. Both are returning to the club along with the defense—DeMarcus Lawrence, Leonard Williams, Jarran Reed, and Ernest Jones—”the Dark Side” is coming back as well.
