Mike McCarthy set to depart from Dallas after turning down Cowboys’ offer, fans react – “What a small and petty front office”
Mike McCarthy was not happy with the terms of the new contract offered to him by Jerry Jones and opted to walk away.

The Dallas Cowboys have managed to embarrass themselves more off the field than on the field this season. Head Coach Mike McCarthy has pulled the plug on a chance to stay on and sign an extended deal with the Cowboys.
As per Tom Pelissero, both sides were not able to get on the same page in terms of the length of his new contract. This resulted in Mike McCarthy‘s exit as the coach of the Dallas Cowboys. He walks away with a 49-35 record and three playoff appearances during his tenure.
The reason McCarthy’s departure is a bad look for Dallas and especially Jerry Jones is because this team treated him without respect. They denied him permission to take a meeting with the Chicago Bears for the team’s HC job last week while choosing to not offer him an extension themselves.
The Dallas Cowboys have scared away potential HC candidates with their handling of the Mike McCarthy situation
Now, the team hoped to put him in a rough spot by offering him a contract that works out on their terms. The former Packers HC is walking away with his head held high and on his own terms. This comes as a blow to Jerry Jones who has continued to iterate in the past few weeks that he still believed in his ability to lead this team to the Promised Land.
Dallas has effectively lost its HC and, considering the way they have handled this situation, respected coaching candidates with great credentials will think twice before taking this job. Fans were furious at Jerry Jones for his handling of the situation. This is how they reacted to it via X:
This was completely expected. If the Jones family wanted McCarthy back, he would’ve been re-signed at the end of the season. Why they slow played this and dragged it out, I do not know. By doing this, they have limited their chances of getting a good quality head coach.

Would Jerry do it any other way?

Good for him, the Cowboys are a franchise run for profit & power for the Jones family.

No coach will be hired that can win the way the Cowboys are run as of now, Jerreh will NEVER hire someone that wants control of discipline and the coaches
As long as Jerry Jones is the owner. The Cowboys will never win

As long as the owner refuses to fire GM and let a football guy run the team it won’t matter if he resurrects Vince Lombardi to coach the Cowboys, the team doesn’t have true discipline since Jimmy Johnson left, 30 years ago

This is not the cause of the problem

Awful: #Cowboys owner Jerry Jones didn't allow Mike McCarthy to interview for the #Bears head coaching job only to fire him days later.

Zero class. https://t.co/ElKXxkdqpv pic.twitter.com/nMXl4g7L6M
This should not be surprising at all. The Cowboys benched Cooper Rush for Trey Lance in the last game of the season intentionally keeping Rush from a $500k incentive.

Incredibly weak sauce from Jerry Jones. Regardless of their relationship, he should have allowed him to interview when the Bears requested if this was the intention.

Really bad look for Jerry.
Now that Mike McCarthy is no longer required to report to the Cowboys, he still has the opportunity to go and interview for the Chicago Bears HC vacancy. Apart from this, the New Orleans Saints are reportedly expressing interest in him, too. He will be back in a Head Coach capacity, but just not with America’s team.
