Tom Brady must admire Mike McCarthy a lot because even after a horrible season, the former NFL quarterback praised the Cowboys head coach.

Mike McCarthy’s future with the Dallas Cowboys remains in the dark. Even though Jerry Jones’ team defeated the Commanders in week 12, they have a very slim hope of playing post-season football.

While a section of the Cowboys nation and former players would prefer to see McCarthy out of Dallas, the veteran head coach received a vote of confidence from none other than Tom Brady. The seven-time Super Bowl winner was at AT&T Stadium on Thanksgiving Thursday to cover the Cowboys-Giants’ week 13 game.

In his long playing career, which spanned over two decades, Brady faced McCarthy-led teams several times. So, he knows a thing or two about how good the 61-year-old’s coaching is.

I think Coach McCarthy is a great coach. His 18th season as a head coach. He’s a great leader of men. But not only as a play-caller, he’s a developer of players, of talent, of quarterbacks.

Brady added that McCarthy is one of the better coaches in the NFL because of his history of winning silverware with the Green Bay Packers.

He’s got championship DNA. I think he’s one of the better coaches in the NFL, absolutely.

Will Mike McCarthy receive a contract extension?

Before facing the Giants, McCarthy’s team sat on 4-7 after eleven games. 2024 being his contract year, fans pleaded to Jones to not sign a new deal while coaches like Bill Belichick and Deion Sanders are up for grabs.

However, Jones hinted that McCarthy might stay beyond the current campaign. The veteran owner spoke in a similar tone as Brady.

I don’t think that’s crazy at all. This is a Super Bowl-winning coach. Mike McCarthy has been there and done that. He has great ideas. We got a lot of football left.

After finishing the first season with a 6-10 record, McCarthy guided the Cowboys to three consecutive 12-5 seasons. The Cowboys secured two NFC East titles but have only one playoff victory to show on his CV, which came after beating Brady’s Buccaneers.

Moreover, Sanders, who currently coaches the college side, the Colorado Buffaloes, teased that he might stay in the boulder country even after a chunk of his star players will transition to the NFL through next year’s draft. That just leaves Belichick, but there’s a possibility of a clash of egos between Brady’s former mentor and Jones. Yet, crazier things have happened in the past.
