Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson suffered a rib injury during the loss to the Seattle Seahawks earlier on Sunday. In a one-sided outing, the Seahawks dominated the Dolphins 24-3 and extended their winning streak to three games.
Thompson, who’s replacing Tua Tagovailoa who’s out of the game after suffering his third concussion in his NFL career, struck out in the third quarter. Thompson was visibly exhausted after a sack from Tyrel Dodson early in the third quarter. Eventually, the hit from Dre’Mont Jones led to his removal from the field. He is the second Dolphins QB to be injured in two games this season.
Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel referred to the injury as “pretty painful” after the game. He cleared that the complete picture would be revealed by Monday after more scans and observations. The coach fielded Tim Boyle after pulling back Thompson.
Half the pain or half of the frustration for him, I think was, he was really trying to find a way to not come out of the game. And ultimately, it was pretty painful. He fought through it, but we'll get a chance to look at him tomorrow.Mike McDaniel speaking on the Thompson injury
McDaniel also pointed out that he needs to iron out the flaws in the offense and figure out the quarterback issues. If Thompson’s injury seems to be severe, in those cases, he will have to manage with Boyle. Tagovailoa will be out three more games with the concussion.
McDaniel believes offense is an extension of his responsibilities and he will work on them in Week 4. The Dolphins will return home as they play Tennessee Titans who haven’t won a single game in the league so far.
Dolphins looked half their might without Tua Tagovailoa
The Dolphins have lost both fixtures without Tagovailoa, highlighting a huge issue in their quarterback game. Skylar Thompson couldn’t live up to the expectations and fans believe they won’t even win three games without Tagovailoa.
Thompson managed to complete 13 of 19 passes for a total of 107 yards, but he was sacked five times in that game. Boyle was even worse as he threw 7 of 13 for 79 yards and got sacked once. The Dolphins had Tyreek Hill as well as Jaylen Waddle, but it didn’t help these quarterbacks.
McDaniel’s coaching is also equally blamed. He called plays which costed them points, including a 57 yard attempt at a field goal while being 3-0 down. He is being brutally trolled on social media for his soft play attitude as well. The Dolphins will now have to recuperate, find ways to fix the QB situation.
