On Monday night, the San Diego Padres took on the New York Yankees during a rainy night in the Bronx. During the game, Padres manager Mike Shildt got involved in a heated verbal argument with the home plate umpire after Fernando Tatis Jr. was ejected from the game.
The incident took place in the top of the eighth inning when the San Diego-based outfit were 3-0 down in the game. With two runners on the base, Tatis Jr. who was 0-for-3 in the game, went up against Yankees’ Devin Williams.
After taking a 1-2 count, some words were exchanged between the home plate umpire, Adrian Johnson and Mike Shildt. Tatis Jr. later stuck out swinging on a pitch which seemed to be missed the strike zone.
The Padres’ star was not happy with the pitch and said some words to Johnson while making his way back to the dugout. The MLB umpire would not take this lightly and tossed out the 2-time All-Star from the game.
Following the ejection of his star player, Shildt came out from the dugout and got involved in a heated verbal altercation with Johnson. The two were involved in a huge exchange with Shildt going back and forth to give the umpire a piece of his mind, and even threw away his glasses on the grass. Needless to say, he was also ejected from the game after this incident.

As per reports from ESPN, this turned out to be Shildt’s 15th ejection in his 6-year managerial career. As for Tatis Jr., it turned out to be his first career ejection.
Mike Shildt comments on getting ejected against Yankees
Managers and players getting ejected from an MLB game is not uncommon. Sometimes, tensions flare up which leaves the umpires with no choice to toss them out of the game. Mike Shildt and Fernando Tatis Jr. both were ejected from the game on Monday after they vented their frustrations towards the decisions of the umpire.

Following the game, the Padres’ skipper commented on the incident. He seemingly stood up for Tatis Jr. after he was thrown out of the game while having some words with umpire Adrian Johnson.
There were some pitches that he didn’t agree with and I also didn’t agree with and I made my comments from the dugout known, which I don’t do a ton. But then (Tatis) walks away hand over his mouth, and next thing you know he’s ejected, walking away with his back turned.
Mike Shildt told the reporters
The 56-year-old then mentioned the track record of his team regarding this. He claimed that his team does not have so many players who get in trouble for their behavior and get ejected from the game.
We’ll talk about track record, I don’t have players that I manage that get ejected. I probably have the fewest amount of player ejections in my time managing. So our players play, they stay in the game and they’re respectful to the umpires.
Mike Shildt added

Padres stun Yankees late on following ejection of manager Mike Shildt
The ejection of Mike Shildt and Fernando Tatis Jr. turned out to be a huge turning point in the game as it seemingly fired up the San Diego Padres stars. They went on to pull off an incredible comeback and stunned the New York Yankees late on.

A two-run shot from former Padres star Trent Grisham had given the Yankees a 2-0 lead. There was a rain delay as well, as it started pouring down heavily in New York. A sacrifice fly from Anthony Volpe in the sixth inning gave the hosts a 3-0 lead.
After Mike Shildt and Fernando Tatis Jr. were tossed out of the game, Devin Williams loaded up the bases while walking Luis Arraez. He was later taken out of the game and replaced with Luke Weaver. A two-run double from Manny Machado and a two-run single from Xander Bogaerts turned the game around to lead 4-3.
The Yankees were unable to come back from this and ended up losing the game. Weaver ended up taking the loss as he and Williams imploded late on.
