Since the introduction of the Next-Gen cars in 2022, it has been one of the most divisive topics in the sport. It has factors the fans and drivers adores, while also having components they really hare making it a unique mix. Former NASCAR driver has given different verdicts of the car over the last few seasons and ex-RCR driver Mike Skinner has a unique take as well.
The former Truck Series champion seems to be huge fan of the cars. At Darlington, he claimed that the Next-Gen cars are the best vehicles that has been made by NASCAR ever. He highlighted the safety, pace and great sound of the car. Skinner asserted that the current cars the coolest ones he has ever seen.

I just feel like this car is the most amazing car that they’ve ever built. It’s safe, it’s fast, it’s sexy, it sounds good. I think the current Cup car is the coolest one ever, for me anyway.
Mike Skinner told Frontstretch.
It tough to judge Skinner’s verdict of the cars, considering he hasn’t driver a Cup car since 2012. At the same time, he cant be overlooked considering the wealth of experience he has been around the sport. His love of the car is because of the fact that it would really suit his racing style of caring less about the tiers and being more focussed on driving fast.
Mike Skinner explains how Next-Gen cars suits his driving style
Skinner before giving the verdict about the car, admitted that it’s vehicle that suits him really well and claimed he would have done really well driving it. His said that he didn’t have the finesse to control the tier wear, but with the Next-Gen not being that demanding he would’ve been really good.
I think I would have done really, really a lot better in this car than the car we were running at the time. The car we were running at the time, you could really burn the tires off of it pretty easy… I didn't have any finesse. I could mash the damn gas, but I couldn't figure it out.Mike Skinner said.
The Next-Gen car continue to be a topic of debates in the sport and will continue to be so if NASCAR doesn’t fix certain issues such as poor racing in short tracks. Skinner’s take seems to be bit biased but at the same does have some valid points in terms of safety.
