Mike Tomlin receives Aaron Rodgers warning from NFL analyst after Vikings ended their pursuit of signing the Super Bowl winner
FOX's Chris Broussard views the Steelers as the only viable destination for Aaron Rodgers and his quest for a second Super Bowl ring.

The NFL is halfway through to see the conclusion of the second week of free agency, but Aaron Rodgers remains without a job. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings no longer want to pursue the veteran quarterback, leaving only two teams in the hunt, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants.
On Wednesday, the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed the Vikings’ decision to stick with second-year quarterback JJ McCarthy over adding Rodgers to their roster. From the beginning, Rodgers was a 50/50 bet for the NFC North side, and the fans were against signing an aging quarterback when they have an exciting youngster waiting for his chance. The people inside the Vikings facility believe the former Michigan man is ready even though he missed his rookie season through injury.
FS1 analyst Chris Broussard argued in a recent segment of First Things First that Rodgers wants to play football in the NFL. The delay only proves that the 41-year-old believes he still has something left in the tank and Pittsburgh is an idle place.
If you are considering the New York Giants, you want to play football. I don’t care what he says… He begged the Jets to [let him] stay [which means] he wants to play. This leaves only one choice and once choice only the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Chris Broussard said
However, Broussard sent a warning to Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin, to think twice before agreeing on a deal with Rodgers.
There’s a risk. If you got Pittsburgh and Mike Tomlin has his first losing season, that’s a bad look… But I will say this, he is not afraid of risk. He went to the Jets and immediately started talking Super Bowl but obviously failed miserably,
Chris Broussard added
The Steelers are the likeliest team to land the 4x NFL MVP as their next quarterback. They already executed their backup solution by bringing back Mason Rudolph from his one-year foray in Tennessee.
Chris Broussard points out the upside of Aaron Rodgers playing for the Steelers
The Steelers are a better and more established team compared to the Giants, who finished with only three wins in 2024. As Broussard highlighted, Rodgers’ goal is the Super Bowl, and he has a better chance of winning it with the Steelers.

Go to the Steelers. The upside is you get in the playoffs and maybe do some damage. I am sure in his mind he is thinking that ‘we can win the AFC.’ But just there, win a game that would be great. You can walk away as a hero or if you fail you fail but you are still the great Aaron Rodgers… There’s no way I would [want to] go to the Steelers.

Nick Wright suspects a shift in power
When a team goes after Rodgers, they not only bring in a player but also invite in experience and drama that come with him. The Jets witnessed it firsthand when the 10x Pro Bowler didn’t show up for mandatory minicamp last year.
Broussard’s colleague Nick Wright fears the Steelers might experience similar circumstances. Wright asserted that Rodgers is playing mind games by delaying giving an update about his next team. The veteran FOX contributor further feared that Rodgers might try to influence his view on a team that has a history of winning six Super Bowls and has a coach like Tomlin.
Brou knew this [Rodgers possibly signing for the Steelers] two months ago; it has always been the Steelers, and to me this is an obvious and pretty transparent power play… One of the few places he [Rodgers] could go and he wouldn’t be imprinting his culture, his locker room, is Pittsburgh and Tomlin. You know how to change that? Make them wait.
Nick Wright said
Wright speculated that to a degree the Steelers bought into Rodgers’ shenanigans by letting him decide the timeline for an answer.
Hey Pittsburgh, what’s your plan—we are waiting on that guy [Aaron Rodgers]… When is he deciding? Nobody knows. Does [Pat] McAfee know? Does Rapsheet [Ian Rapoport] know? So we the Pittsburgh Steelers and our six Super Bowls and our 100 years of—real NFL bluebloodedness are now waiting on the whims of this guy [Rodgers].
Nick Wright said
Time is of the essence for Rodgers because he has already created a bad impression on some of the Steelers players. Recently, 4x Pro defensive tackle Cameron Heyward went off against Rodgers for taking too long to make up his mind.
If Rodgers does end up signing with the Steelers, he will have no shortage of attacking talent at his disposal. Wide receivers DK Metcalf, George Pickens (at risk of being traded), Roman Wilson, and Brandon Johnson, along with a running back core of Jaylen Warren and Kenneth Gainwell, are a great crop of players to work with.
