The Los Angeles Angels are officially out of the playoff race. On Sunday, the American League side suffered a massive 11-2 defeat against the Seattle Mariners. Team superstar Mike Trout found himself catching some flak as the Angels missed the playoffs for a 11th successive season.

At the All-Star Break, the Angels were 47-49 for the season and seemed to be in the mix for a wild card push. However, they once again suffered a massive downfall. Their train would go off the track in the 2nd half of the season.

After sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers a month ago, the Angels had a 59-62 record and were 3 games behind the .500 percentage mark. Since then, they have had mixed results which left with a lot of chasing.

They entered the field on Sunday, hoping to avoid getting swept. Unfortunately, the red-hot Seattle Mariners would crush them 11-2 to claim their 9th successive win and topple the Houston Astros from the top in the process.

The 4-game sweep at the hands of the Mariners left the Angels 12 games behind the Astros for the final wild card spot with a 69-81 record. With just 12 games remaining, the Anaheim-based side was mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.

This marks the 11th straight season that the Angels will not be playing October baseball. This 11-year drought is the longest playoff drought of any team in MLB history.

The Angels last appeared in the playoffs in 2014. After winning the AL West and finishing with a 98-64 record, the Angels got swept by the Kansas City Royals in the American League Division Series (ALDS).

This development ignited some fierce reactions from fans, with many taking aim at Mike Trout. The outfielder, who signed a 12-year $426.5 million extension with the team in 2019, has made it to the playoffs just once in his career.

This is something that does not sit well with the fans. They would take shots at the 3-time MLB MVP for signing this long contract instead of asking for a trade.

Reacting to this latest development, one fan wrote, “He’s totally washed up” and slammed Trout. Meanwhile, some others took a swipe at the team management and front office. Check out some of them from X below:

Despite the slump of the Angels, Trout has remained loyal to the team. The Angels, however, have just been unable to pay him back with several mismanagement from the front office and ownership.

Dan Patrick recently commented on Mike Trout’s career amidst Angels’ losing run

Mike Trout will likely be a 1st ballot Hall of Famer when it’s all said and done. Despite the injury records and lack of postseason success, he will be regarded as one of the top names in baseball. Sportscaster Dan Patrick recently weighed in on his career and made some interesting comments.

On the Dan Patrick Show, the sportscaster expressed that Trout’s legacy in the MLB could have been different had he been playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He later expressed regret that Trout could be forgotten due to the lack of success with the Angels.

If Mike Trout was on the Dodgers and doing what he’s doing, his place in history changes, because he will be playing in playoff games. He’d be in the World Series. Mike Trout is a first ballot Hall of Famer. Like those first 10 years, it’s unanimous. Then, when’s the last time you watched a Trout game? I haven’t in a long time. So, one of the greatest players of our generation, and you’re not going to have any memories of anything more than ‘uh yeah, I saw some highlights.
