Deontay Wilder is worried about the health of Mike Tyson in the scheduled bout against Jake Paul. ‘Iron’ Mike was to face Jake Paul in an eight-round match on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. The date has since moved to November due to Tyson’s health. Most athletes have expressed concerns for Tyson. However, the legendary heavyweight wants to move forward as planned.

Ex-WBC heavyweight champion Wilder didn’t believe the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations officially approved Tyson vs. Paul as a pro-sanction. It turns out that Mike Tyson specifically asked for it. Perhaps a last hail mary to relive his glory days again. In a Sportsbook Review Exclusive, he expressed concern about Tyson regressing to a coma after getting hit wrong. Tyson scoffs at the crocodile tears.

Then let Mike get hurt. You don’t have to worry about paying my bills. Everyone says this makes no sense, but he’s how old? He’s not who I am. He can’t go to Mongolia and have somebody know who the fu*k he is.

The Fort Greene, Brooklyn native boasts a sturdy collection of 50-6-1 stats and 44 career KOs. However, Tyson, 58, last fought in 2020 in an exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr. that ended in a draw. Many believe ‘Problem Child’ is already better off than Kevin McBride, Tyson’s last professional loss. Jake Paul, 9-1 (6KOs), a lifelong cruiserweight, has only lost to Tommy Fury so far.

Deontay Wilder thinks remembering Tyson via his last KO to a YouTuber would be a hefty price. Perhaps nothing could underscore the age difference between the two any more than it already is. Nevertheless, Tyson says that age is just a number. Ulcer flare-up or not, he is still that consensus heavyweight beast. Wilder would disagree, given that he once said he could KO this heavyweight beast.

Mike Tyson’s humble response to Deontay Wilder saying he could KO ‘Iron’ in his prime

There are, of course, questions about age and agility in the context of Mike Tyson vs. Paul. Skeptics are wondering if Tyson is too old to still be in contention. As a result, it has drawn unwarranted attention from many boxing top crops. Industry and even cross-promotional standouts like Mike Perry and Ryan Garcia have offered to sub in if needed.

Out of the ashes rose another name: Deontay Wilder. The former WBC champ expressed concerns for an out-of-prime Tyson. However, Wilder had once shared controversial takes (Source: RT Sport; @RTSportNews) about Tyson not faring against Hall of Famers.

He billed Michael Spinks and Larry Holmes past their prime output. Hence, he said he could knock out ‘Iron Mike. When TMZ specifically asked then-WBC heavyweight champion Wilder in 2018 if he had a shot against Tyson, he claimed to have all the capability to destroy Tyson in 1986. Tyson had a classy response to it all.

I don't know if [I'd beat him; but] I love the fact that he thinks that, because that's the way I would think as well...He's supposed to think that way, he is the heavyweight champion of the world and that's something very special. [But] I don't think so...

Even former British heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis scoffed at the idea. He said it’s easy to talk about the game, but there are levels to it. While Wilder was still very likable, he did not have more weapons apart from his deadly right hand. If Tyson Fury had used technical boxing to defeat Wilder, Prime Mike Tyson would have had more arsenal to inflict serious damage.
