The New England Patriots head coach, Mike Vrabel, praised the team’s quarterback, Drake Maye, after the Pats defeated the New York Giants and secured their tenth straight win of the season. Maye shined with 282 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 12 yards on six carries.

In his post-game talk with the reporters, Vrabel gushed about his signal-caller. He appreciated the quarterback for making decisions that helped them to win the game, even if they didn’t boost his personal stats.

He added that the University of North Carolina Tar Heels’ alum Maye underplays the role that he has in revitalizing the Patriots’ offense while also admiring his presence on the team. Vrabel said, via a transcript from the team:

I think he’s realizing what he can be and what the impact that he makes on this offense and being the conductor. He’s hard on himself. I think that he challenges himself as well as his coaches. He means a great deal to this football team.

The win over the Big Blue on Monday also meant that the Patriots became the first-ever team in the league’s long storied history to win ten straight games, scoring more than 23 points and allowing fewer than 23 points.

It was also Maye’s sixth game this season, in which he has completed at least 75% of his passes while throwing two or more touchdowns. He has tied Matt Ryan for the third such game in a season in NFL history.

Ryan registered the same number of such games in 2016. It only points to the fact that Maye has been consistent the whole season, playing a central role in the Patriots’ strong season, guiding the team to an 11–2 record, the best in the AFC. He has recorded 3,412 passing yards (1st in the league) with 23 touchdowns (4th in the league) and six interceptions, supported by a 72.8 QBR.

Drake Maye made a strong case for league MVP after toppling the Giants on Monday

As the NFL enters the final stretch of the regular season, the league’s most prestigious individual award appears to be converging around one name: New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye. He has re-established himself as the clear betting favorite for the MVP award, overtaking Los Angeles Rams veteran Matthew Stafford, who held the top position just a week earlier following Week 13.

Stafford has recorded 32 touchdowns, four interceptions, and 3,073 passing yards in 12 games. Entering Week 14, Maye sits at the highest odds to win the MVP, while Stafford follows closely, forming what has effectively become a two-man race.

The next closest candidates, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and Green Bay’s Jordan Love, are ranked much further down, which shows the significant gap between the leading duo and the rest of the field.

Maye’s rise is rooted in both production and impact. New England’s 11–2 record places the team among the league’s elite, and the rookie quarterback has been central to that success. The pathway ahead remains dynamic. Should the Patriots secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC, Maye’s case strengthens considerably.

Conversely, if the Rams capture the top seed in the NFC, Stafford’s candidacy becomes more compelling, particularly given his longevity and lack of previous MVP recognition. While the award is intended to reflect the current season alone, voting bodies are not immune to narrative influences, and Stafford’s career arc could subtly shape perceptions.

Ultimately, the decision rests with the 50 Associated Press voters, who will cast their ballots immediately after the regular season concludes. With four weeks remaining, the award appears firmly within Maye’s grasp; however, not even he’s prone to the shifts that could redefine the race.
