Mike Wallace, belonging to the iconic Wallace family, was set to make history in the upcoming Daytona 500, starting as the second oldest racer to be part of the event ever. But NASCAR has shattered his dreams of a race entry with MBM Motorsports, as they have decided to disqualify him from attempting to race.

The primary reason behind this decision has been the racing inactivity of Mike Wallace. He hasn’t raced over five years and making his return in one of the toughest races ever doesn’t seem to be the wise choice. The DQ is not only for the Cup event, but for Xfinity and Truck series as well. Wallace was devastated about the DQ and shared his feelings via social media.

To my utter shock and devastation at 4:00 today, NASCAR competition director Elton Sawyer called me to inform me that NASCAR has decided not only to not approve me for Daytona 500 but at this time not approved to race in the Cup, Xfinity and Truck series in 2025 but could go through there process to possibly get approved for 2026.

Mike Wallace wrote on Facebook.

One thing that makes him getting overlooked worse is the fact that, he had talked with NASCAR president a week before the DQ announcement about seeing at Daytona. He also thanked his fans for the support and inspiring message in the tough time.

This comes as a total shock as the President of NASCAR last week in a real phone call told me all was good and he will see me in Daytona. I owe this posting to all my fans and non-fans who were so supportive through the great messages and postings of support as they say I inspired them!

Mike Wallace’s team is devastated by NASCAR’s decision

MBM Motorsports was excited about being part of history and giving Mike Wallace a chance. They released a statement following NASCAR’s decision and admitted that they are devastated for Wallace. The team has now shifted their focus to finding a new driver and sponsor to replace the veteran driver for the event at Daytona.

We are devastated for Mike and the Wallace family that this opportunity will not come to fruition. For MBM, we must regroup at this late stage with the loss of our driver and sponsor for The Great American Race. Our team is working swiftly to sign another funded driver for Speedweeks in order to still attempt the 67th Daytona 500.

MBM Motorsports said via statement.

The comments from MBM Motorsports shows they are in a really tough spot ahead of the race after losing their star driver as well as their sponsor. It would be interesting to see if they will be able to efficiently replace them and get into the 2025 Daytona 500.
